When I was in a small village between Nice and Monaco, the local crepe place was run by a guy from Ann Arbor. Good crepes and a burrito the size of a brick. :) In Bahrain, some buddies and I made a beeline for the nearest schwarma stand as soon as we were able. The locals were very appreciative that we wanted the local fare instead of the McD's a few meters away.

so how hard would it be for this neurotic DE user to find an old unused or in absolutely flawless condition gillette ...something.

Not hard at all if you're willing to pay the $$. Put a WTB post in the Classifieds here and in the BST at B&B.

There might be a few NOS razors floating around... or you can do what I did and get an old razor re-plated.
I wish I had a decent camera on hand... I'm really jazzed about my nickel-plated bar handle NEW.
    :D

I'm not sure if you can get a TTO replated, due to it being a one piece and there being moving parts inside, but the three piece fixed head razors are a sure thing.

Not all that difficult, depending on the razor. You can find barely touched Techs pretty easily for not a bad price. A little looking around will find you a lightly used Super Speed. Is there a particular model you are looking for?

I don't know too much about old razors as far as performance goes... whatever fuzzy let me try worked out pretty well, I forgot what it was though. I just don't want anything adjustable because you can't clean the inside without taking it apart

Easy answer, usually from 11am-5 or 6ish in the evening.
That varies on weekends and depending on how tired I am.

Like Corey said, try a Tech.
The ball-end type are very common and nimble little shavers.

and on that note, time to go shower & shave.
I'm gonna squeeze one more shave out of the Fatboy/Feather combo and then shelf it in favor of my shiny NEW.

Jen, I have a Gillette Slim that I swear was only used once. The case is flawless, the razor is flawless, it had a blade in it with very little lather residue, and the 5 blade case still has 4 blades in it. I was going to be putting it up on the b/s/t soon, but I just haven't gotten around to doing it yet....PM me if you're interested....

good night everyone. I've my new part-time job tomorrow - no more classroom orientation, now I'm on the street with a crew...

It did not stack up as good as the Bostonian, but still a pretty good razor. Need to test it w/ a black blade which I will do on Sat. The shorter handle makes it lighter though which I think is part of the prob.

Carrabas is a kick a$$ joint, but very pricey. Can't go there often. Other chains we like are TGIF, Stuart Andersons is above average--love their pumpernickel bread, there was a sports bar chain called Damons that had a great sample platter but they have closed, McGraths which does fish is pretty good.

If you want good beef friends you have to travel a bit to beef country. That would be S. Dakota. The Elk Creek Steakhouse and Lounge just outside of Piedmont and Phil Town Best Western restaurant in Sturgis are tied for the absolute best prime rib I have ever eaten in my life bar none. The Firehouse (which is an old refurbished honest to God fire house) in Rapid City makes a mean Reuben or burger. Good steaks too. All three are located on I90 in the Black Hills. When you go visit Mount Rushmore someday these are three "eats" places you must hit.

That Bump thread is kind of fun huh?

Unless you must have a Gillette, you can always get a brand new Merkur Non-Adjustable for under $30. Here's a 23C that's $29 at West Coast Shaving:

I sold my 23c to Steve (Bronco). I think he likes it, but I wasn't a big fan. You can ask him for opinions.

Actually Shep, next time the wife and I head over to the Buffalo Chip in Sturgis for a Rally I might have to check out some of these places you say.

    7am.
I get out of here just in time to sit in traffic getting back into Austin.
But I rode the motorcycle so I consider it not so bad... unless people try to kill me like they often do, or it rains... gotta hate that.

You're a brave soul to ride a motorcycle anywhere near Austin, these yahoos drive like retards.

It's weather like todays that make me want to buy a bike, then I remember my daily commute and how many times I nearly die.

It's all about keeping your eyes on the road and your mind on what you're doing.
That doesn't rule out everything the drivers around you might do, but it gives you the best chance to react.
And, I guess most importantly is riding within your limits.
If you're riding balls-out, your chances of reacting properly are greatly diminished. You see that all the time on those 'police chase' videos where the idiots are trying to evade the cops.
