I only had one shaving purchase from my recent trip, and believe it or not, this NOS Black Tie was it. Winners (a Canadian version of TJ Maxx or Ross's) will have shaving stuff once in a while, but usually big brand stuff. I've gotten DR Harris creams there, or Proraso etc. I was very surprised to see this what...3,4,5,6 year old(?) tub of soap sitting there. I received the Baker Street tallow version from Perry in a PIF, liked it and for $8 I thought 'why not?'. This isn't the tallow version- it looks like it relies on glycerin and a series of oils to do what it needs to do. It had dried out a bit, but still had enough moisture in it to be pushed back to fill the edges of the tub.
I loaded plenty of product (never a problem with this brush...) and worked up a nice lather. It starts out very dense, but channeling my inner
@Linuxguile I soon had wet lather flinging all around. The scent is very nice. I have no chance/ability to describe it, but after smelling it, I thought this Fresh Vetiver might be a decent match. Perhaps Mastro Miche as well.
3 passes with the cool Bostonian later and I am quite smooth. After one shave with this soap? 1. Love the scent- it is still strong enough after sitting for years and it is super. 2. I don't think this is a super slick soap by any means, but it is functional. I'd put the Tallow version a few notches above it. Between this and Baker St, I'm wondering if scent is what this company used to hang its hat on. They were just on their way out when I was getting into this 3 years ago, so I really don't know what the opinions were when they were going.
Have a great day, all!
