Thank you, Jason! I was only at school about three hours today. Everything is ready to go for some band groups tomorrow and then the full band comes in on Monday. Tomorrow and Friday will be full days, basically 8-5.

My steps and thoughts on restoring a Rubberset 400 shave brush.

I typed these up sometime ago but they are still relevant.

I started by reading this thread on Badger and Blade:

    http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/355627-The-Rubberset-400-Club

Really, it can be as simple or as complicated as you want to make the process. I would break it down into the following steps:

    1. Unscrew the collar from the base. I used a strap wrench around the collar and a table top vice with plastic inserts. You could just as easily use two strap wrenches. It will help if you use some painters tape around the brush collar to prevent deep scratches.

    2. Remove the old knot. with the collar removed I cut the old bristles and drill a hole through the center of the knot. Then use a screw driver and press down around the knot. I find that the old glue cracks and breaks away.

    3. Sand or polish the handle. This is where you will have to decide how far you want to go. To get a mirror finish takes time working from 180 or 220 grit sandpaper all the way to 3000-5000 wet sanding. Then aluminum polish with a soft cloth.

    4. Pick a knot. The collar will hold a knot of 24 to 25mm at the plug. Setting the knot is pretty easy and there are several different methods. I used the 2 part epoxy putty to build a shelf for the knot at the correct depth and then set the knot with silicon.

Read through the thread above and then this thread here as well before starting. http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/the-400-club.41179/

Thank you Perry. I just had to jump at the chance since Swati's expenses are already covered. I am only out my meals, airfare and walking around money.

I'll visit the B&B thread to see what transpired. Our TSD 400 Club is a known commodity. It helped me develop and satisfy my R-400AD. I got in about the time APShaveCo Tuxedos were a new thing.

    July as you like it

Modern Williams with a dash of Aqua Velva AS
B-400 by Tom @twhite, APShaveCo Tuxedo knot
    Suribachi Bowl, cool tap water
'55 Gillette Red Tip, Voskhod blade
    Barbasol Brisk AS
SOTD 07102019.gif Sixty eight hours plus or minus since my previous shave. I almost said "last shave" and though it'll happen one day, today was not that day. The M.Williams loosened up easily with a well shook out synthetic knot. Just barely catch a whiff of the AS I mixed with it when it was mashed into the OS mug. Blade of unknown number of uses was up to it's duty for three full passes. After a rinse felt no need for any clean up Joe @Trigger style 1/2 pass. Not that I was BBS, just didn't need to risk the threat of pushing for the lagniappe. Inspired by Robert @Frijolero I splashed on the Unobtanium Brisk. Oh, almost unavailable! Someone with a liking for a pleasant scented, strong menthol post shave product needs to take Perry @PLAla up on that offer. I've got mine - get you yours!

Thanks Jim! I've been hit or miss documenting my purchases. Oldest photo of this DE I spotted is from December of '16. I'd suspect it was found covered in soap scum. Fortunately that seems to protect the nickle finish. Besides the heavier weight and more efficient blade holding geometry, I really like the knurling. Deep and bold.
