Haha! not really I have never been precious about a razor, I've have sold off razors many would consider their grail razor, to me they are just tools with an interesting piece of history attached to some, yes I do have a preference for Japanese razors and certain English vintage razors, German Solingen razors there's nothing wrong with them, but they just don't float my boat.
I had to come up with something that my Wife liked, especially has it's in the living room, she likes it and it can be a talking point when people see it.
I have two storage facilities for my shaving gear (not brushes). One is a restored machinist tool chest and the second is a reproduction of chest for oriental medicine.
I keep 9 straight razors in a 2 sided plastic school box with multi compartments to store DE blades, also. My tenth straight is my favorite, a 15/16 Wostenholm near wedge stays in a coffin.
I'm really terrible. My straight razors are just left lying around my bathroom and bedroom. I know I should take better care of them, but that's just how I am.
@The Fox Listen, if you lived in my neck of the woods, then you would have to properly store them against the humidity. Because you live in N. Dakota that's not an issue. However, you should still keep them out of the bathroom because the moisture in that environment will eventually tarnish/rust your razors. I hope they are in coffins. I would suggest getting a miniature tool box or what I have pictured for my razors. I got my schoolbox in a discount store/drug store in the school supplies section. It cost me 8 dollars. Where you reside will probably cost a lot less. Take care!
A restored antique dental cabinet hold most of my collection. Discontinued and vintage soaps in the top behind the glass I have a vintage dental cabinet almost identical to what you pictured but unrestored next to a sorta working dental drill & compressor. The cabinet is full f vintage motorcycle parts, have no idea why you need a cabinet that size for razors or you have too many. That cabinet has loads of space. Eventually I will restore a traveling dental box for now I use a cigar box. I tried a sewn case with leather inside, but with the summer humidity did not go well. Did you line the drawers then just lay the razors in?
I saw on one of the other forums a member has a zip up pouch with elastic slots to hold the razors. Been tempted to pick something like that up.
Also should add that I’ve seen a couple boxes that open up top and just have slots to slide the razors in standing up. Wonder if anyone knows where to find something like that.
Some fun at the Home Depot... You can get 12 razors “attached” but it starts to look a little nuts. Fun little storage and display option. Tom
I thought this Dovo display piece was always good looking so I snapped a pic and kept it as a future idea. I was able to get my hands on a simple retail display fixture someone was getting rid of, and thought the time had come to give this a shot. I have a few larger, interesting Wade & Butchers that would display nicely. Mocked it up and got some rustic looking bronze wood screws. I liked the placement so drilled the screws into place... and here you go. Not quite sure what I’m doing with that ivory one... maybe a magnet??? This screw set up locks the blades in very securely. And the bronze finish I think works well with the old Sheffield’s. Might play around some more. Enjoy your projects. Tom
