    Straight Razor Shave #86
    Good morning guys!
Ok, this was the first shave after I honed my Dovo Special for the very first time. In fact, it is the first real major honing ever. Today, I brought out the Proraso Green and the aftershave for Menthol Monday. My Stirling Boar did a great face lather of the Proraso. I have to admit that I was a little nervous doing the first stroke. Lol! All I can say is ,"Houston we have landed!" The blade took off my 40 hr stubble beautifully with the scraping burnt toast sound. At pass one, I could have stopped for a DFS+. Pass two, I could have stopped without doing any touchups, but decided to do touchups anyway. Believe me, there wasn't much to touch up on my final 1/2 pass. During the shave there wasn't any tugging or pulling, it was so smooth. I did the fool's pass and it was so easy because the blade was sharp! I added very little pressure while shaving and it was very enjoyable. No wounds or irritation was had during this shave. Now, I believe I was able to hone this razor because Lynn Abram, the great honemeister, honed it originally. Finished this awesome shave with the Proraso aftershave. Next, I will be shaving with the Dovo Best Quality to feel the result of its honing. Have a great day, my friends! 20190715_085934.jpg 20190715_085934.jpg

  8. Thank you, Danny! Today was a great milestone in my straight razor journey and I know there will be many others. It is a wonderful feeling to know that I can do something that most people are afraid to do and that is straight razor shaving and maintaining the razor by stropping and honing. I want to thank you and the rest of the bunch for cheering me on during my 7 months on this forum.
  9. Thank you, Jim!

  10. You are welcome Joe. Honing, mantaining and shaving with straight razor in my view point is the ultimate in the shaving world.

  13. Thanks for the props, Terry! I just want to say it is such a great feeling to hone your own razor and get a nice shave afterwards! Now, I still have a lot to learn about honing straight razors, but this was a great launching point for me.

Pulled out the Goodwill, 'just because' and the Gentleman (ok, maybe not 'just because') this morning. I came back to town last night as I work today, but SWMBO and the kids are on Summer vacation and stayed out at the lake. Whipped up the usual, excellent Stirling lather and went to town on 3 passes. I hadn't shaved since Friday, but that didn't seem to matter as this combo got rid of everything anyway. I'm quite smooth and without any irritation. A great start to a short week, as I start a few weeks of vacation mid-week.
PS- The lake was really busy on Saturday:
