It is some special Damascus type of steel, looking forward to getting used to this monster. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
Well, I couldn't pass this up. I just bought a used, slightly restored, and shave ready 6/8 round pt Thiers-Issard Spartacus with the black plastic scales for $99. I purchased it from Maggard Razors. I have a nice 10 straight razor collection and always wanted a Thiers-Issard. At this price, I had to pull the trigger.
F.W.Engels "Special" Solingen Germany 5/8th inch Extra Hollow Ground I lucked into this one. One of my favorite brands. Very very thin hollow grinds, with excellent steel. It snagged it for $16.32 total. It had a fair amount of light rust, with a little heavier stuff. Most buffed out. The tang still had almost all the Blueing intact, with light rust, that came off, with a light scrubbing, with a brass brush. The spine looks untouched, by stones, and it looks like the factory bevel was still intact. Also, the color on the scales is original. Usually it comes off, easily, with cleaning, or rubbing. This should be an easy hone.
Vulcan Cutlery Co. "Bicycle" Made in Germany 6/8th inch. Extra Hollow Ground. Came with the blade, covered in thick grease. Needs a little work, on the edge, but, for $9.50, it seemed a good deal. Everything is centered, and tight, with just a little wear on the spine. BTW, I liked the etching. Before being touched up:
I got these two razors recently. Didn’t have time to hone them yet. Both seem to be unused. One is a JA Hellberg and the other is a Yasuhira Hinode.
