He definitely makes interesting razors, you were spot on about holding the edge.

Does surprise me a little just how much of a beating these Sheffield’s can take.
Just a little reminder of how it started.

I can get shaveable edges on my Sheffield blades but not up the level I get with my other blades. Today was a test and while I am getting better the edges are not as sharp or as smooth as I get my other razors. They are shaveable.

Thank you Bill. This was a fun one! Eventually I will get a grinder and finish this one appropriately. But no hurry.

Doing some edge durability and stropping maintenance evaluation. I plan to stick with this razor almost exclusively for a bit to see where things go.

The Barbers Bride came to me honed only by its creator. It shaved well, but not like I wanted. I touched it up on a Naniwa 12k. To make a long story short, I decided to send it for honing to a source you don't hear too much about.

He has been around a while and likes Shaptons which he takes to 30k. I'm sure plenty of folks can do the same, but he does something unusual at the end. After running the progression, the razor is gently dragged cutting edge against the 30k similar to how one would mute an edge on a glass. Then he makes a few more passes on the 30k for the finish. I almost did not mention it because I've not seen it done on razors. The theory I've heard on knives is that a 'feather edge' is removed that would easily roll.

Since my knowledge benefits by discussion, I'd be glad to hear opinions on this.

Bill, if you Google “jointing a razor edge” you will find some opinions.

I like to do it while I’m on the 1k, and I feel it helps get the edge straight, but I also do it on each synthetic up through and including the 8k... just a habit I guess. I think I can feel any anomalies and the edge comes back fairly quick.

I’ve heard people go beyond and you obviously like the results. Maybe I’ll give it a try.

The YouTuber nickshaves did the video where I saw it.

I've seen it done on knives, but not razors.

Let us know what you find if you do try it.
