    Good evening guys
    Dovo Shavette shave #90
    Personna Hairshaper (8)
    Stirling Boar Brush
    Stirling Sandalwood SS and AS
I have to say that the Stirling boar brush does a fantastic job facelathering. The brush costs just under 10 dollars and it truly is a bargain. It is easy to break in and the bristles are soft. Ok, enough of the Stirling brush commercial. Two and a half passes with minor touchups gave a fantastic BBS shave. Finished with some witchhazel and the matching aftershave. Presently, I am at the clubhouse turn approaching 100 shavette shaves and 100 traditional straight shaves with 90 shaves completed for each razor type for a total of 180 open blade shaves. When I reach 100 shaves for each, I will give my thoughts on what I have learned during this journey. Guys, have a great evening! 20190728_174719.jpg 20190728_174719.jpg

Ok gentlemen, and ladies of course.
The mad sientist experiment has gotten som results.
First I don't recommend doing any of this, if you get hurt, it was your decision to try it.
Last night I mixed up a concoction of menthol and grain alcohol to more or less see if it would work. Well it did, quiet nicely too. According to what I read, menthol has a rather low melting point, around 100 deg F. That means it will melt in a cup of hot water drawn from the tap. It will also stay in suspension in alcohol, grain alcohol was the nearest thing I could use instead of denatured alcohol. I could not find 190 proof, but I found 151 proof. So mad sientist hat on, backwards of course, and off a mixing.
First thing about menthol crystals is that if you touch them they will melt getting it on your fingers, not good so I used gloves and safety glasses too. I got an old plastic bottle and shook about 1/4 full, but if I were to pack them down, probably closer to 1/8 full. Then I filled the bottle 1/2 full with alcohol.
The crystals just sat there. So I heated the bottle with the stuff in it in a pan of hot tap water, then shook it every few minutes. That melted the crystals and they were suspended in the alcohol.
To make sure they were mixed, I put it into the fridge over night, the next morning it was still just liquid.
    It worked!
Now I'm not going into checking strength, but I used 100 ml of warm water adding small amounts till I was satisfied.
It came to about 2 ml menthol mix for 100 ml after shave.
I put 1 ml in my half full Stirling bay rum.
Then I tried it, works fine. Now because the AS has alcohol in it, the menthol will stay in suspension.

I don't want anyone to use these instructions for home use, its just a description of what I did. I take no responsibility for you messing up your health or your life.
    Got it! Good!
If this is the wrong place to post it, well, sorry. Please move it.
    I like pictures so....

Kicking off Monday old school: Today's soap is a vintage Old Spice puck in a vintage Old Spice mug. This soap is a top tier in performance but the scent is long gone so I just add a few drops of Old Spice to the lather.

The Toggle gave me a nice shave and I have to admit while I am not a fan of vintage DE razors this is one cool looking razor, I just wish it was more aggressive.

I bought this brush NOS and of course, I just took it out of the package and started to use it. It has the nicest knot I have ever used but I because of it's size I use it a night to clean my face instead of for shaving.

    Razor: Gilette Toggle
    Brush: Culmak 55
    Soap: Vintage Old Spice
AS: Old Spice AS, Speick ASB
    Scent: Old Spice
