I'm in the understand that if I get to much menthol crystals in the alcohol the menthol will precipitate out. So just pour off the liquid and you have a very strong mixture, at refrigerator temperatures see. That's next on the mad sientist list of things to do.

I started with paste set I've seen marketed as Dovo and Herald.



Inside the blue is a black paste (probably diamond) - fine

Inside the red is iron oxide a reddish color. - medium

They also have the green in a tube, chromium oxide - coarse

Well, the Dovo got the pasted balsa today. It helped, noticibly. But it could still be better.
No complaints about the rest of the shave. Cyril Salter hard soap is another definite keeper. Easy, slick lather. English lavender scent. What's not to like? Finished with Avon Blue Blazer aftershave.

 

Terry - we should leave it right here, but if you want to start a new thread to share the info with all of TSD I'm all for it!

I got a small screw top soap sample tub of menthol crystals from The Traveling Box. Doing no prior reading or pre-search I've crushed a couple of the smaller crystals and stirred them into lathers, also added to Florida Water AS/cologne. Now that I've read your procedure I'll try the dissolving method with the 190 proof Everclear I use to clean my tobacco pipes. Thanks for sharing!

Synchronicity on the scents Keith. My shave report soon to follow. As I understand Gillette Technology it's possible to "overclock" the adjustables. That may only gain blade gap & not aggression. I'll take Terry's path and not say you should, but you might.

 

I think the Dovo black is similar to CrOx

I thought about turning it up to 11 but I do not want to break this razor.

Stirling got the scent right and the tallow base is good stuff. Took me a couple tries to load enough soap for my lather but it came together. The Chick blade will be changed before I use the ole Schick again. Before Chris @Bama Samurai PIFed this one my way I had no appreciation for injectors. It got to me right on time to train up for The Bunny Pass Around - West Coast Division. Three intensive buffing passes netted a smooth error free DFS. Splashed on the vintage juice for the win.

Back from my weekend of work. Busier than I expected which is good but it did keep me tied up and unable to grab a shave. That's ok. I haven't touched a pain stick for a face shave this month so perfect timing. Last time I used one was a head shave. Tonight's head shave featured my usual Merkur 23c wth Astra SP, and the face got the pain stick. The Feather DX got chosen with the Feather Pro blade. It's SHEEP SUNDAY so the just plain Stirling Sheep got the call with the JR46. Super slick, super protective and two passes yielded a DFS that was perfect for the finish. I did manage to nick my left earlobe with the tip of the blade but it wasn't enough to worry about. Great shave to finish off a busy weekend and lead me into the next week! We're three days away from Adustable (Arko) August!!! Thanks for another great run this month! Summer is a busy time and we're that much closer to being done with it. Have a great start to your week!
