Hi all I'm looking for some S/E blades for my gem razors I have seen a lot online but all say for industrial use I have tried some of these which fit but are not sharp enough for shaving Info on shave ready blades would be great as I am at a loss Paul
Those are good blades. I prefer Treet carbon steel blades. https://www.maggardrazors.com/product/treet-super-single-edge-razor-blades-5-blades/ I have a youtube channel and use those blades often. A lot of people like the ptfe coated stainless blades. @Linuxguile has a shop on Esty. He usually carries some SE blades.
Several are good...carbon, stainless...but you can't go wrong with Gem/Ted Pella PTFE coated blades. I enjoy the feel of a carbon shave but for single edge, PTFE the best a man can get (imo). There's a guy with a website called Try a Blade, you can buy as few as you like to try out without buying more than you may end up using. He probably stocks them.
I have found I really enjoy the PAL carbon steel blades, which can also be found on the Etsy site Fuzzy mentioned or at Ted Pella. Best way to find out what you like is to try a few different blades and see what works for you. Sent from my BND-L34 using Tapatalk
I tried Etsy and ted pella but I am in Australia and they don't post here I think I will see if I can get The ones of Amazon ( thanks cliffb599) that's if they post to Australia? Paul
For SE GEM blades regardless of manufacturer they come down to four types of blades. 1. Carbon Steel 2. Blue Carbon Steel 3. Uncoated Stainless Steel 4. PTFE Coated Stainless Steel The carbon steel blades need to be dried after each use or they will rust the stainless won't. You'll see recommended probably more so than others the coated stainless steel blades but the carbon blades I personally find just as good, only reason I don't use them more often is due to maintenance. When you buy from whatever retailer if they happen to come from a medical supply place make sure the blades have what is called a 3 facet cut. Those are the ones suitable for shaving. I'll second using Connaught for whatever blades they do stock but before doing a large order see if tryablade.com will ship your way so you can get like maybe 5 of each type to try to see what blade(s) you prefer before doing a bulk order.
Gem PTFE for me. When I bought from Connaught it made sense to go with 200 blades, save a little per blade and shipping was reasonable.
I get mine here if Andrews shave shop is out of stock. https://www.razorbladeco.com/barber You will order 62-1065 and get 62-1078. These are the 100 count bulk pack of the 62-1065. They also have them in uncoated 62-1067, I have never used the uncoated. I go through a lot of blades. tp
They also have carbon steel in at least one variety and blue carbon steel blades also, they just don't list them under barber for industry. carbon steel https://www.razorbladeco.com/62-0161-gem-carbon-steel-extra-sharp blue carbon steel https://www.razorbladeco.com/62-0163-extra-keen-blue-single-edge-blade uncoated stainless steel https://www.razorbladeco.com/62-0167-gem-extra-sharp-uncoated-single-edge-blade If it was me and they ship to over to AUS, I'd set up a group buy with other local shave enthusiasts to spread out the costs and get a good supply blades going locally so when other new members show up you guys can post each other smaller quantities within those online or other communities which is what guys do here and on other boards sometimes.
For me the GEM PTFE blades are the only ones I will use having tried the others. I got some from Etsy and Try-A-Blade.
I don't know about Australia, but in the US the large pharmacy chains typically have one choice of GEM style shaving blades, usually their "house" brand.
Thanks mate I went got onto Connaught site and order the Gem S/E blades x100 Now Just got to wait for the mail normally 1-2 weeks To Australia (this is 2019?) Paul
I don't know how Paul at Connaught makes a go at the prices he charges international customers but God bless him Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
