I rarely see French point razors here. I would be interesting to see a thread dedicated to French points.
Pair of 6/8 between-the-wars French point Bokers in butterscotch celluloid, superb razors. King Pelican 27 French point, a fine razor from Nichiri barber supply.
In have had three bit sold or gifted them. I believe the beauty is outweighed by the danger in my hands.
Just curious, why? All the vintage French points I’ve had/seen had rather rounded toes, like these above and are quite mild. The sloping toe also allows you to see a bit more of where the edge is going. That said, TI makes an aggressive French point, appropriately called the ‘Dominator’, but this is not a vintage French point. Those Bokers, honed on the right jnat, can shave a sleeping mouse without waking him up. Image is stock TI I believe, but courtesy of the invisible edge.
A wonderful look for a razor... That TI Dominator is a beauty. My blade face is almost gone, but love the look. Here is one I haven’t seen much... a PacKard. Not as pronounced, but nice. And a favorite, which needs to be part of a French point thread... the Wacker Chevalier. Tom
My son’s PacKard reminded me of another - the Puma 18 is a shape I have a slight addiction to... You might see some similarities with the next two, a Grah & Plumacher “Silver Ring” 49: And a Carl Radar... also a 49: These are the most usable of my French points. No real bite to that point in this design.
With most of my French points being German, I was on a quest to find an older French razor. I think I found one... M. Navaron-Dumas Now I feel better... a French point French razor. Tom
Glad I found it... was thinking I was going to have to petition the razor rule book to change the nomenclature to German point.
