    Adjustable Arko August!!

    August 21

Razor - Soviet "Ideal" (Super Adjustable Clone) (9)
    Blade - [IMG] (1)
    Soap - Arko
    Brush - Semogue 620
    Post - Alum

Back to the Russian side of adjustables for a few shaves. The Soviet "Ideal" is normally seen as a clone of the Gillette Super Adjustable. The Consul, which I used earlier this month, is seen as a clone of the Slim. According to one of my sources in Russia they are "the same razor made in two different factories". I disagree with him. The wide open 9 gap is still a beast like the Consul and much more aggressive than a Gillette, but the handle design, weight, quality of the materials and head geometry are all different between the two Russians. This razor feels cheaper, lighter and the blade is more obvious due to the angle of the head. Suffice it to say I like both, but this one is probably less like a Gillette than the Consul. If this is "the same" razor made in two different factories it proves the theory that Soviet (Russian) engineering and manufacturing standards SUCK!

Fresh Voskhod to get the whole Russian thing going and the Semogue 620 to remind me how good the 1305 will be in a few more shaves. Plenty of Arko and three passes and it's a done deal with a great shave. Have a great Thursday!

Well, Adam @Drygulch has proven time and time again that there are three words that will cause me to go on eBay and buy something. Charlie @wristwatchb , being the astute student of fellow 30DC behavior used those three words on me about a month ago. "I dare you". However, he wasn't parading a shiny new sharp object that had the potential to either prove my skillset in shaving or end my life in a bloody heap. He showed off a very cool looking Russian watch. The Vostok Kormandirsky. Apparently the watch lovers have taken to these Russian mechanical watches like moths to a flame. (Unless it's an urban month - they have evolved now to avoid light. Look it up.) The model he showed me was an Army version, and when I went and looked they have a lot of choices. I decided on one of the Navy watches. Yeah, I was in the Army but I like Navy stuff. Besides, the submarine looks cool. I got the notice that a registered package from Russia was awaiting me at the Post Office and immediately thought - "but wait, I haven't ordered any blades". Then it hit me. The watch had arrived. The package was smaller than I anticipated and here is the progression of unwrapping.

    Wrapped Watch.jpg Watch box.jpg Watch unveiled.jpg

You'll notice how the instructions are in Russian. Fortunately, they included a one page printed sheet of English instructions so I didn't have to translate the whole book. It's a cool looking piece, waterproof (or at least heavily resistant) and the stem operation is a bit clunky. But hey, it's Russian so why wouldn't it be clunky? I did get the time and date set and everything looks great. Love that sub with the star on it. I did a check on the second hand sweep against a stopwatch and it appears as accurate as a manual winder should be. The band is a bit cheap but it'll do until I decide to replace it. Nice piece of Russian personal gear.

And, as Charlie requested - here's the obligatory wrist shot. Not doing that is apparently like not showing the setup in a shave report. It's just not proper to leave it out!!

I did not shave today, Blair. My last shave was on Tuesday evening. I will be shaving sometime tomorrow. Thanks for the vote of confidence on my non-existent shave.

A fine gent and wiley unicorn by the name of @PickledNorthern used to say the Supply would be the one razor kept for the nursing home caregiver to put in his hand to shave with. I've thought many times about getting one.

    SharptoothC I bite..........

Hi fellers. Thought I'd pop in and say hello and share a bit of a laugh. Some of you may recall that my youngest daughter is quite a handful. She is not lacking in drama or emotion. She started 3rd grade 3 days ago. Here's what my wife posted today:

"Me: Lily how was school today.
Lily: it was ok. It wasn’t too hard except for writing.
Me: Oh did you have trouble with your handwriting again?
Lily: Well sort of but that wasn’t the problem really. The real problem was the teacher just scratched through my word “and” and she put a period where there was not supposed to be one.
Me: Well Lily I think your teacher knows where the period goes and also was trying to help you with your sentences.
Lily: (insert large blue eye roll and loudest voice possible)...well she said it was MY story so I can do what I want. It’s not her story it’s mine! So she does not know where to put the periods or what words to use. Only I do!

Y’all this is only day three of the third grade. Lord help me."

Mind you, she was hanging upside down the duration of the conversation.

By the end of 3rd grade, I shouldn't have to shave my head anymore.

Speaking of shaving, my favorite combo of the month is a Joris razor and Williams in an Old Spice mug.
