Well, I finally got to play with my lathe! I turned a piece of pine that Jim gave me, and made my very first brush handle. Pictures are forthcoming... gotta get home to the memory card. :( I don't think it turned out too bad for a first effort, if I do say so myself (and I do say so).

The big storm we had last week broke off a limb from an 100+ year old oak tree at my grandmother's house, and my aunt told me I could have some of it if I wanted it. I've just got to figure out how to cut a chunk out of the heart. That would just be too cool.

For those of you wanting an honest-to-goodness wood lathe, check your local Harbor Freight Tools... they have a coupon going for a 14 x 40 lathe for only $89! Our local one had a small lathe (8X12) for $119. Funny that the smaller one would be more expensive.

morning folks! I'm feeling better today but I sound horrible. my voice dropped a couple octaves while my body copes with whatever's ailing it. Sounds like I'm gargling gravel when I talk. This voice would have been very effective last week...

    Congrats! Pics please!

Try an old toothbrush with the Maas. The folded cloth idea is a good one too (and will produce better results), but expediency can be beautiful.

Man, that sounds good, even in the morning!

See, this is what I get for reading last night's posts today! You guys are making me hungry. Got any of that bunny cake leftover, MsB?

Excellent! Now's your chance to speak the beginnings of all of those Barry White songs to your [favorite recipient here]. Seriously, I hope you get feeling better soon Mike - Spring and summer colds/allergies are the worst. Try the hot towel before shaving. The steam might help.

Off to work for this old dog...

You guys cost me way too much money. All of your pen talk "made" me add a pen turners kit to my order this morning. Now I just need to find some hardware sets that accept Waterman or Pilot G2 refills.

speaking of spending too much money...

After leaving the local Harbor Freight with $24 worth of tools (a mini dremel and a self-centering doweling jig), TWGW and I went next door to Big Lots--- New (Old) Movies! $33 down the drain.

"Okay, honey, we better go home before this gets worse... we still need money if we're going to go to that ren-faire next weekend."

    "Fine by me, let's go."

"Oh, hang on. Is that what I think it is?"

    "An honest-to-goodness record store?"

"Must---resist---urge---to---aww screw it, let's go look."

    $71 later:

"Well, I guess we'll just give the faire a miss."

    "Agreed."

Until I get to my memory card, this crappy artist's rendering will have to suffice. At least this way you can get an idea of the general shape.

The bunny will eat bunny cake? I didn't know he was so cannibalistic. That would explain why he is so violent. But not why he chooses to hide eggs in shoes. I never will get that one....

Being somewhat domestic today. Washing the eating utensils , doing laundry etc.. Great day yesterday.

Nice looking artist rendition of a turned block of wood.

Mike sorry you are still under the weather. Use that Star SE always makes me feel better:D

How's Haint and the rest of the Zoo today?

    MsBlackwolf Queen of Critters

Haint is up on my desk here looking for goodies, yard birds are busy getting those cutworms out of my garden before I plant it, hawk is on her jump ring watching the chickens, ponies and donkeys are busy eating expensive hay, Miss Kitty came in full of rodent and has crashed on the couch, and the rest are being lazy as usual. I'm still recovering from too much food over the weekend.

Hey guys, just stopping in HYD for a moment.
I really should be in bed already... but, as usual, the weekend messed up my sleep schedule.

I hope everyone is having an acceptable Monday.

Got back home yesterday. I never ended up going to Cambridge Chemists (their website seemed overpriced and Pasteur already had almost everything I could imagine - I believe I'll be putting up a thread somewhere shortly detailing my experience), but I did stop in the other Pastuer Pharmacy branch while near the Empire State building one day. Found some more Trumpers shave soaps with the tallow base. :D

Ugh. Thanks, Shep. I'm going to lynch the thing. I was actually cutting down on things and selling off/giving away a number of things in my den. Now, I've got a ton of new stuff again. HYD - if I ever express interest in buying something, tell me I can't have it.

I've never paid attention to how I replace blades in my slant. What difference does it make?

Aren't you always getting into trouble?

    Oh boy.

Don't know how, but about three years ago, I removed that funny whatsajigit from the Guinness bottle. I seriously wonder what effect it actually has on the pour.

Good to hear MsB. Glad all are healthy and in good order.

Dom good to see you. Glad you had a good trip.

    Nice lazy Monday going here.

Cool... I am curious to know how much of a difference it makes. However, it is a moot point as I don't have access to Trumpers with tallow...

Sorry, that is against the HYD code of ethics. It is also probably a violation of some Calvin ball rule

Some blades don't always center perfectly in the two post heads. Usually they work themselves out when tightened. But I guess you could get an overly aggressive shave on one side if not straight.

    Maybe you broke the bottle?

    wchnu Duck Season!

You would be correct. Trying to halt AD's is a direct violation of rule ADR34786756 Section A . Thank you for remembering.
