Thanks Terry. The Maggard slant is my second favorite razor next to my Ikon B1. And I just picked up an Ikon X3, but haven't had a chance to try it yet. There is still a warm place in my heart for the Merkur 37 HD. I learned to shave almost 40 years ago with a silver plaited version.

This was my first DE razor, a silver plaited Merkur 37 HD. I learned to shave with is almost 40 years ago. Now it lives in my top bureau drawer.

Hi, i am new here, and was happy to find posts here about Slants, a razor design i have always found fascinating.
    I own at the moment:
    Maggard Slant
    Merkur 39c
    PAA Alpha Ecliptic
Mulcutto Schrägschnitt Bakelite with metal top plate
    Seygus Zeppelin
Were the last one is an odd duck, not a Slant perse, it twists the blade in a 'smile' as such it would facilitate left-handers as both side show the same angle. Lets say it 'Slants' both ways ;-) It is a very mild slant.
The best of this bunch is the Mulcutto, even with its low, low weight it is a very effective razor.
I have a PAA OC Bakelite paid, but not send (yet i hope) on its way, and i am bidding on another Slant at the moment.

Funny, i bought the Merkur 39c as my first Slant simply because i was curious what the deal was, i tried it, got bitten and dropped it back in its box, deciding i would sell it later on. After lots and lots of practice with some much harsher razors than the Merkur, someone on a EU forum was raving about the great shave he had with it. That niggled an itch that needed scratching, so with much trepidation i used it with a fresh Lord Classic. BBS & DFS, my jaw dropped, i could not believe this was the same razor i discarded.
For reference, i used cartridge shavers before, and after my first switch to Safety Razors i bought a Mühle 89R, that i used with Feather blades like i used my cartridge systems of old. Do that with a slant and you could just as easily run a potato peeler over you face! Lots of pressure, and the illusion you have to get it all done in one go.
Spending lots of time with other razors, and reading about shaving on diverse Fora showed me how to do it, and build up the muscle memory to do it the right way.
So i do hope the photo's are clear enough, as i had to scale them back quite a bit to upload them (size restrictions?)
The last one is a close up of the Seygus Zeppelin, albeit not a very sharp one :-(.

Posting this one up a day late. Yesterday was a daily double for me, this beautiful slant (Fasan) and a Gem "squat" 1912, but the Fasan was the star of today's shave. It took the first and third passes and the results were a DFS+!!!

Here are the slant details and pic (the GEM "stepped out" of the photo out of respect for the thread ;)):
Razors: Fasan Open Comb Slant (Full Bakelite) | GEM 1912 (squat head)
Blades: Vokshod (4) | GEM PTFE SS (2)
    Brush: Razorock Plissoft 24mm
    Soap: Valobra Fougère
    A/S: Thayers Rose Witch Hazel

That's a great collection of slants.
I use Feather blades in all my DE razors.
They just work great, they're my go to blade.
Jump in any time, of you are having trouble with a razor, blade, soap or anything else, vist the 30 DC thread in shave school. Lost of info there, they are a craxy bunch. Oh, and, any thing that shaves is not only acceptable, it's encouraged.
    Thanks for sharing.

Nice shave James, it's hard to beat that razor in its price range.

Now load a Feather blade in that RR, she's a hard razor to beat. Just ride the cap, easy with the pressure, then enjoy a close shave.
