Great looking shave. I have found that I am moving to razors that deliver a great drama free shave and not concerning myself about how aggressive the razor might be. I just want the razor to work for me without much thought.

That razor looks like one where slipping in the blade is easier than with some others.

Some time back I realized I couldn't keep pace without just using the like button for acknowledgements. I even had to stop hitting like on many posts.

The chit-chat and codial atmosphere is one of the drawing characteristics of TSD for me.

    Tough to balance.

@brit You asked for modern recommendations. For the money, the Karve razors made in Canada are very hard to beat. The craftsmanship is first rate. Furthermore there are so many SB and OC baseplates, one is able to pick a setup that works for them.

T&H is a very nice English cream, Jason! This container of sandalwood was retirement gift from a good friend, former colleague, and a fellow wet-shaver. He picked it up, along with a few other items for me, on a visit to West Coast Shaving. I have such a backlog of stuff that I'm only now using it. I'm steadily moving toward my goal of having just a few products in the den that I really enjoy using. Tallow products will include Tabac and Mike's. My non-tallow products will be MdC (I have two pucks, a lifetime supply) and 1 English cream. I like the convenience of having a shave cream in the Den. Overall, TOBS ranks near the top for me in that department, considering cost and performance. I'll leave the 5th product spot open for the occasional new or different soap or cream - that will allow for the occasional, generous PIF that I receive, a 30 DC LE soap, etc. That's my version of minimalism, although I realize most of my family and friends still consider it to be way over the top.

All things considered, I do prefer the extra (perceived) slickness and skin care provided by tallow products.

    RyX DoH!

The unscented has a scent - Eau de Burnt Newspaper.
I've tried it, didn't do much for me. Got a bottle of Thayers Rose - grand daughter uses it for her teen breakout forehead.
Oh, you've missed an essential experience. That's a very good signaler of over shaving for new guys. It'll light you up. It also tightens skin, sort of an instant face lift.

I've got two post War Techs, a travel Tech, an Aristocrat, a Single Ring, and a Fatboy that need to be cleaned up and brought into the rotation. I hope to do that over the weekend. I'd like to finish the month with a post War Tech and maybe a travel Tech just for fun. It will be an interesting contrast to my shaves over the past few weeks with the wide open Slim.

Patrick, I purchase Thayer's Witch Hazel on Amazon. I'll shop around and try to find deals on two- and three-packs. I've picked it up in the past for about $7 per container. I had been purchasing alum on Amazon also, but I plan to check the local Indian grocery where I think it will be less expensive. I use alum on my finger tips to aid with skin stretching and sometimes during my post-shave routine. I keep a block of alum next to a bar of pre-shave soap on the sink top for convenience.

The most important part of my post-shave routine is the use of unrefined shea butter. It has completely eliminated my dry skin, and it helps soothe irritation as well. I use it on my hands during the winter as well. It's good stuff and will always be a staple in my den.
