Playing catch up, skim, lurk. Haven’t had a chance to post my last two days of shaves.

Great post and thoughts Jon. This is what it’s all about. Sure, it’s just shaving, some trial and error, but you’re here, picking up little tidbits of information to help your shaves. Keep at it!

    I'm out of the closet.
I spent quite a bit of time organizing my soaps and aftershaves this afternoon, even included a trip to the home improvement store for some plexiglass to line the wire shelves. My daughter came over while I was finishing up and told me it looked like I had a shaving store. We got to talking about how there isn't much available locally. I told her about Pasteurs in NY and how I would like to go there. Her job takes her to NYC pretty regularly so she asked where it was at. Turns out her office is pretty close. I may just have to fly out with her sometime so I could go check it out.

    Have a good night, gentlemen.

Thanks Danny! That was my third shave with that razor. It's time to use another razor for my next 3 shaves. I think I will go with one of my Fatboys.

    Frankensoap shave today...again.
Started out with a Hydromagic on my head, but after 2 strokes on a dull blade I swapped it for my Gem jr which I had intended for my face shave .
For the soap....ahem. It is now a mix of Proraso, South Padre, BoS 2019, and another Stirling sample from better days . Seems to take on whatever scent of the latest addition to the bowl. Doesn't matter to me as long as the lather is good ..and it was . Next shave may see some Nivea Men from a tube added to the mix.
The storm is giving me fits tonight. Roof and basement are leaking and cant do nothing about it until this passes. Will rip wall apart to find basement leak source and patch it . The roof....may be big $$$ repair. Leaking in 2 places . Got to love old houses . Catch up tomorrow. I need sleep.

    20/30.

    New blade (#6)

Prep'd today with hot water and soap followed by a Cold water rinse for a cold water shave. :Animatedfrozensmily:

So after yesterdays success loading off the puck for the bowl, i thought to try it again for the face.
Wet the brush, shake it out, a few drops of water on the puck and then go at it in small, slow, gentle circles. The theory being to use the tips of the brush to pull of the soap but not excite the soap so that it begins to lather. A few drops of water every now and then help soften the puck and pull the soap into the brush. That's the theory at least....

As for technique, again, focusing on pressure and i tried to match my wtg-xtg-atg passes with my beard growth (i normally do down- across-up). Also trying not to overbuff whilst pushing the razor a bit and working the angles to get a closer shave than i have been getting.

    Results?

Well, i got (easily) 3 passes of lather from the brush!!! :happy093:
So its only took twenty shaves, 3 brushes, blooming, not blooming, bowls, tears and tantrums and a few forum casualties along the way but i think i finally have cracked it!!!
    :D

The shave was good as well. No nicks, no drama. DFS/BBS.

I do think the razor likes a sfresh blade.

Finished off with Freshwood AS and balm and i am good for the day.

So tomorrow, i am going to push the lather to see how wet i can get it. Perhaps dialing up the water might dial down the cushion and help the shave. This means i have to be careful with pressure and angle but, know i have cracked the puck puzzle, i can move on to other parts of the shave.

    A good day :)
