I'm not a SS fan, either. Interestingly enough, although I never tried a Red Tip, the Blue Tip I had for a while gave a rather decent shave...better than the regular SS I had...
I am not an SS fan either. They just are not my thing. Its more than being TTO. I have an old 46/47 aristocrat that I love... (hmmm haven't used it in a while, will have to work that back into rotation). I can get great shaves out of adjustables. The older 40's SS were OK but the flair tips tanked for me.
If it doesn't work, pass it along bro. I actually did pretty well with my early 50's SS. I haven't tried the flare tip, and there seems to be no point in trying the blue tip. And, of course, you know I've had no luck on the Red Tip front. Too pricey or not in the shape I'd like... but I'm not hurting for razors to use so I can afford to be picky :happy102 I've been using my ball-end tech with an Iridium Super that Bryce tossed in when he sold me my first NEW. So far I'm really liking that blade. I might have to get a few packs next time I order from Connaught.
Why not? It's mild, for sure, but I think it's really under rated. If it was a beefier razor, I'd have kept it myself. I did get good shaves from it, I just like something heavier in my hand...
The SS razors didn't impress me much. Not that they don't shave, just wasn't what turned out to work best for me.
Glad I'm not the only one underwhelmed by the SS. People seem to love the hell out of them, but I never seem to get them to give me a decent shave. It's not even about being mild razors (at least I don't think that's the case) because I have had nothing but incredible luck with my Tech collection.
Mild razors mean I have to go over some areas too many times, leading to irritation. That and, like you, I favor a heavier razor. Part of going from plastic crap razors to classic DE's was an appreciation of substance.. and heavier razors definitely satisfy that. Speaking of... it's gotten late and I'm going to have to hit the shower too. laters all.
Huh... I thought Iridium were out of production. 6 months ago I couldn't get them and now I see that Connaught has them. Too bad I am more than set on blades for years or I would go ahead and pick up a bulk order. Anyone have a pack I could buy off of you to try before I order some blindly?
I think it's because of the different geometry in the Tech v. SS... I love my Fat Handled Tech, which is absolutely my lightest razor, but I get great results with it....
I completely agree. Of course, I have my nice bulldog handle from BRW and I am very happy. Good heft and weight. But now that Bulldog Mastiff is calling. I guess that might be where my next purchase ends up being. I got outbid on some German travel razors in the last seconds. One of them was a slant with a removable head. sigh
I haven't tried the Fat Handled version yet, but I'm in love with my C3 ball end Tech. Loaded up with a Feather, it gives an almost perfect shave.
Was that a collection of 3 razors? If so, I watched that one till the bitter end and just couldn't pull the trigger. Same with the Apollo Solingen Slant I actually put a fairly high bid on. They looked like cool razors to have, but they all went past what I was willing to shell out.
Get yourself a Big Fellow. Wow. I think it was purpose built for my hand; fantastic shave with it today... :happy088 That would've been cool....how much you wanna bet you got outbid on that slant w/ removable head by Rodd? :happy102
Welll... I had bid a few times and was calculating what should be coming in the next few days on razor payments and was gonna go higher when my wife called. its like she knew..... I would love to, but I haven't had a chance to get one, so I guess I will just settle with a BRW mega handle. I don't think that that is his encrypted username.. I ought to go back at another auction that I knew he won... Nope... just checked. It was not Rodd. I guess it could have been Cooncat...
OK, I just know I'm gonna feel like an idjit, but what is a pure bristle shave brush made out of? Boar? Badger? Ox tail?
