Rarrrr!! Damnation... I hate auction snipers. Almost had my single ring this morning, but oooooh noooooo... Ah well... another time.
With a few exceptions, my luck with the Bay has been mostly poor. The Pilot M90 I bid on is right at the point where you could buy it brand new for not much more. Boooo to that.
I usually find that when I bid, they sell for way too high. If I don't bid (because it is a waste of time and it is going to sell for too high) that is when the thing goes for a song.
I've had some pretty decent luck on some things. But the more sought after items... pre-1920's Gillettes, Red Tip SS's, etc... those almost always go over what I want to pay. This was the one, my top bid was $40 and that was in the last few seconds. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=180347280019
I am surprised that one went for as little as it did. But then again, I didn't bid. It still went beyond what I would pay at the moment. I have not been able to get a New Improved. If I bid, I always get burned at the end or it goes ridiculously high. If I don't bid, it goes for ridiculously little. I saw one that was in a lot, being in a lot I figured it would go for way too much so I didn't bid and wasn't watching it up to the end. It went for $8. Ugh! Yes, I know I should go ahead and bid, but I was choosing to bid on a different razor and couldn't afford to win both. So I ended up winning neither.
I've been trying to get a Zune at a decent price. I actually won an auction for a 2nd gen Zune 4GB at an excellent price. Unfortunately, the seller sent the wrong item. They refunded my money, which was all well and good, but I just wanted the damn Zune.
The only reason I have the one I do is because it was tucked away (ar ar ar) in the back of a photo with several bar handle NEW's. Given my luck there and with the excellent condition Ranger Tech I scored a month two ago, I shouldn't be complaining. It's just frustrating. I was watching another single ring that ended up going for $39 yesterday. It wasn't quite as nice as the one I linked, but I figured for sure I could get this one for ~$40. But, as I said, another time. If I wanted one badly enough, I could always ask here in the classifieds and take my chances. It's probably for the best, honestly... I'm about to shell out for BRWAD...
Bit of a change in subject, I picked up a couple of pucks of VDH today. One glycerin, one 'select' (plain?), and I'm thinking maybe I'll look for a puck of the Deluxe as well. The idea is, since a lot of people ask about VDH but don't have ready access to it, I was thinking about offering it as a PIF. What do you guys think? **eta: or maybe contributing them to next month's Newbie Giveaway?
I know about BRWAD... I wonder how he feels about this coined phrase. I know he was against calling his progress modifications a bobgress (such as Mer's modifications are called a mergress)... I used the term on April 1st, and it is now on multiple forums. Oops... :happy102
That's not a bad idea for a PIF. Maybe throw in some blades too and offer it up as a Newb Accessory PIF. I've got a bunch of blades I've got that are going to end up PIF'd in some form or another along those lines.
As far as I know, just his own custom knobs (wood, metal, etc...) I don't pay attention to that part as I don't have a progress.
Similar to what Mer does, I believe, but the knobs are his own design. And as for blades, it would be a good chance to toss in some of those Dorco ST300's that I'll likely never use. I'd almost feel guilty about doing that, though.
Think I'm going to split for a bit myself. I need to read up on some stuff and maybe listen to some music to wind down before bed. Have a great day, all of ya.
I'm here, Jim, but just briefly as I finish inhaling my lunch. Back to the ol' salt mine for me... Hi everyone one one one (hey, there's an echo in here) :happy102
GRRR! Getting in to pen turning is costing me more than I thought. I just dropped $78 on kits, and I still need to buy more lathe parts. Some razors are going to have to be sold. Jim, how is turning going for you? I saw the pink ivory brushes. They look amazing! Bummer about them cracking.
