The soup can cylinder rather than... the ball end? I haven't done my research and wasn't aware there were options!

the new deluxe handle will look really cool if you have it replated in nickel..i didn't realize the single rings came in gold wash.. very cool..

I'm not a Purist, and may get curious when I first get a razor. Knowing the NEW Deluxe were gold wash yet mine got nickled before it came to me? No worries. Not being a historian I haven't checked so I assume the '06 in gold wash is it's original but well worn form.

I've been working to master the restoration process. I've had some good luck, but it took a lot of practice to get it right. I actually don't have as many before and after photos, but here's one example.

    Before:
    before.jpg
Sulfuric Acid, Glycerin, Lead Cathode and 12v:

No more nickel and copper plate intact:

I don't have any photo's of the plating process. I'll have to do something about that.

I feel less anxiety using restored razors. The few factory original razors I have live in a drawer even though they're still not worth that much. Maybe it's just me.

Guys I have literally replated/restored 2 dozen razors this year. I have and will continue to give them as gifts to family and friends. Its fun and rewarding to turn junk back into treasure and fun to give someone a bit of history as a gift. I am also willing to help anyone wanting to learn how. There are kits available online and many of the chemicals are available at your local Home Depot.

As is probably obvious, refinishing/plating has become it's own hobby for me. It's work from home Wednesday so I decided I would do a side project between meetings (most of the work is waiting while the part is in the bath). This is the first Gillette New Type Long Comb I have done. Getting ready for Open Comb OCtober.

Cleaned and polished but before alkali (ammonia, TSP, dish soap, and distilled water) bath:

I want this one to look really nice so I plated it bright copper first (The cap is already in the nickle bath):

The finished razor after nickle bath, polishing, and final wash:

I have gotten way beyond using nickle and vinegar and now use jewelry plating electrolytes. However, I still use acid dips and cleaning solutions available at any hardware store.
