I will do that at some point in the future, as i would like to learn how to use it properly.
I can get my pocket knife (opinel no.10 with carbon steel blade) sharp enough with just a natural stone (wästikivi, if anyone is familiar with it), it will shave leg hair, cut tomatoes just fine and thats sharp enough for me. Still, it's quite far from the sharpness of a straight. Maybe i could learn the skill if i had the necessary equipment, but can't really afford it now.

I am not a metallurgist, hopefully one of our chemist or metallurgist will jump in. Here is what I read....

Even for the same steel it depends on the hardening process it went through, how high they heated the blade and how they called can impact the hardness and hence how sharp and long lasting an edge you can get. If the razor is too hard then it is difficult to hone.

Carbon and stainless are broad categories, the gurus claim that the smaller and tighter the grain the better. Smaller and tighter grain can take a sharper edge.

Thanks Gary! I like to use brushes, but Cremo gives me another option for my headshaves. If I am pressed for time, then I can see myself using it. It saves time on the cleanup. Also, you only have to use one application. After the first pass, you just have to add water to the skin for subsequent passes.

I am not an expert, but there are different grades of carbon and stainless steel. They are alloys (mixtures of elements)with different chemical compositions for each type of steel. As far as what grade or specific composition that makes the best blades, that depends on the blade maker.

You welcome, Clint! I am a relatively new member to 30DC and I haven't seen anyone review Cremo. Will it replace shave soaps, no, but this product gives a nice alternative for travel or for getting a quick shave without the mess and cleanup.
