While the server was down....I decided to do a little work myself....and finally "ITS GOODBYE TO WINDOWS":happy023 The TSD upgrade coincided with the release of Ubuntu 'Feisty Fawn' so I downloaded it and performed a complete install instead of my usual dual-boot. I am happy so far....and was wondering how many of my fellow "ladies and gentlemen " use an alternative OS....and if so....which one?
Mac lover here. OS X is great, and with "boot camp" you can run Windoze too (if absolutely necessary).
Given my job, most of what I do is on Windows 2003 Server R2 Enterprise, running on VMWare ESX of course Doing fine with XP at home. Ran Vista for awhile, didn't bother as much as I thought it would. Tried to run Ubuntu but could never get my wireless card to work with it. Needed Virtual PC for some SQL stuff I am working on for certification testing, so had to reinstall XP again.
I also play around with various operating systems by making use of Virtual PC and VMWare. But day in, day out, it's Win XP Pro because I need the compatibility for some of the stuff that I do.
Wait'll you start doing Oracle. Microsoft does things a little differently than the standard SQL language, although the same principles apply.
I noticed that when I do SQL queries in Microsoft Access versus SQL pass through queries direct to Oracle databases.
I've been playing around with Ubuntu feisty fawn, installed on a spare HDD as a dual boot option. It's my first time out with Lunux. Pros: fast desktop load, some interesting apps and a fantastic mahjongg game. Cons: No antivirus, big hassle getting forward/back mouse buttons to work, demands mastery of terminal commands. Screen fonts seem odd when browsing familiar forums. I don't think I'll be switching over anytime soon but Linux has worked better than I expected so far.
Sure, where do you want me to send it? I'll make it up for the University of Face Scapers, Ad Nauseum. Magna Cum Laude for those who use a str8.
