We work 2-10 hour days followed by 2-14 hour nights, then 4 days off....tonight's my 2nd night in so tomorrow starts my 4 days off, then back on Friday & Saturday days, Sunday and Monday nights, then Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri off....so every week it just moves down a day and keeps rotating around like that....

It's great because I can take 4 days off, and get 12 (4 on the front and the 4 on the back)

    Okay.

    I'm starting. :D

    Found this on YouTube:

This performance is a little fast and I've got a couple small gripes with it, but it's pretty decent overall and has a good video to go along with it:

This was the piece from which the Piano Concerto form the classical composers loved to employ evolved.

My favorite recording thus far is one performed by the Concentus Musicus Wien under Nikolaus Harnoncourt.

I only posted the first movement out of the three that comprise the piece, but let me know what you think.

No no Dom, I didn't mean that "Yeah I noticed it too." I'm not stupid kind of way.

I meant "Yeah I noticed it too.":happy102, as in hmmm, the new guy gets to be the butt of the joke kinda way. Pun intended.

Wow, I thought my schedule was wild. Is this a standard for other fire departments that you know of?

So if I'm reading and comprehending this right, you get 48 hours a week, correct? How is OT figured, anything beyond your normal 48 or like me anything beyond 40 hours is OT.

Or if you think I'm being too nosy, tell me to shove off.

As far as I know our department (Baltimore City) and Baltimore County are the only two that have a schedule like this. There are a multitude of schedules out there, some even crazier than mine, but the majority are a 24/48 (work 1, 2 off) or 24/72 (work 1, 3 off). In the general scheme of things, it's actually a pretty easy schedule, based on an 8 day week. Work 4, off 4. This week start Sunday, next week Monday, week after, Tuesday, etc.... Plus we have cards that have a year and a half's worth of the schedule on it so we can plan things out way in advance.

Yes and no. It averages out to be something like 41½ or 42 hours per week. Some weeks may technically be 48, but then the next week would only be 34 or something like that. OT is figured as any time worked outside of your normal scheduled shift. So, I can take a trick off (our 4 days are called 'tricks') using 4 vacation days, and still pick up OT on the front or back of it. Well, before they drastically cut the OT opportunities.

no, not at all....I'm pretty much an open book....about most things, anyway ;)

I figured you got it that way. My "Sorry, Bill" was not an actual apology, but more along the lines of me teasing you.

In any case, I will be heading off shortly. Gonna hit the sack soon and would like to get some reading done first.

Haven't listened to it all the way through, but I think I like this one a little better than the one I posted previously.

    Check this one out:

Glenn Gould. Yes it is on piano, but it's a very interesting take (and Gould is an excellent pianist). Notice that he starts singing and humming when the camera zooms out and that exhibits a number of very peculiar body movements. Also, take a look at the chair he's sitting on. It's not a piano bench, but a little chair his father had made for him. He continued to use this chair throughout his career and would not perform without it.

George Szell, one of the legendary composers, had Gould play with his orchestra. It's reported that Szell told his assistant that "That nut's a genius," in reference to Gould.

I got you covered, Pam. You're welcome. :D I'll post some of my favorites in the next few days. How about you post some of yours as well? Maybe we can both find some new pieces to enjoy.

Thanks for the explanation there Matt. I have it now.

I guess where it really messed with my head was the thought of switching from days to nights without a break in between. Working from an industrial background, I forgot that you gents get sleep time. Or at least I should say hopefully get sleep time. I'm sure there is many nights that just don't happen.

My work schedule revolves around a four week period. I, like you do, get a schedule card every year. We work 12 hour shifts, 7-7 and flip flop back and forth throughout the month. We get 36hr-48hr-36hr-48hr pay checks, with 7 days off straight once a month.

    Sorry to bore you..

I see Dom is heading out... Nite Dominic!

What, the Iron Maiden I posted earlier didn't do it for you?

Goodnight Dom! Thanks for the music!
I think I'll join in this as well....I've got a few favs, hopefully they're on youtube...

Oh, it's no bore. Technically we get 24 hours between our days and nights. Our hours are 0700 -1700. So our second day in, we get off at 1700 and don't come back in until 1700 the next day. (Most stations relieve early as a courtesy to our reliefs - get home for the kids, miss traffic, etc... so here at my station we relieve at 0600 and 1430-1500-ish....me, I'm usually in by 1440)
