I have a couple of the old slants, one is Merkur I think. Have a modern Maggard slant. I have a couple of unusual older slants of a different type, I'll try to remember to take pictures tonight after work.

I found that Lucky Tiger After Shave is a good complement to RR Orange Sunrise.
    According to my nose anyway.
Not my favorite, but not bad at all.
    Great shave James.

This is a new-to-me and don't-see-very-often type slant: the Ziglar. An interesting American made slant from the late 50's -- patent date is 1957. This is one that goes into my pantheon of razors that I picked up because it was on the rare'ish side, and I was wondering how it would shave for me. I really had no expectations of goodness (much less greatness), but it seems when I acquire a razor like that, about 3 out of 4 turn out to shock me with excellent performance....the Ziglar is one of those "shockers" for me. I had a 2-pass and a clean-up DFS+/BBS- shave with no blood, no irritation, no drama -- it was an exceedingly smooth shave, in comfort and closeness!!!

The blade was a VERY well-worn Voskshod (it's 9th or 10th shave), the lather was Tabac (first time I've used my boar with it, and that brush was MADE for Tabac). I finished with some Thayer's Rose Witch Hazel. So instead of just going back into a dark corner of the den, this slant has muscled it's way up towards the front of my slant-pack.

Here are some pics....check out the bottom of the base plate -- not sure I captured it well, but it has a weird bloat/bubble appearance....the top is portion is flat, but when you turn upside down you get a very unique shape. The chrome is a little "pitty", but I seem to find that with stuff chromed in the 50's and 60's -- doesn't affect the shave one bit, and the razor still has a nice shine.

Thanks guys (@Terry, @brit, and @Ron R) -- it really is a great shaver. Admittedly I've only shaved with it once, and sometimes I change my assessment after a few more shaves, but so far I'm very happy and surprised by it's performance. It's not one I was hunting for, but it is one I'm happy to have found. I'll let you all know if it holds up to its great-shaver-status as I spend more time with it.
