oh, I'm afraid I forgot to regale y'all with the events of Saturday
I mowed the yard.
did some branch trimming.
weed-eating.
normal type stuffs.
was relaxing on the swing. wife came out and sat with me. the kids were out playing. daughter had her bunny out of it's cage, running around in the fenced area of the yard. son was playing on swingset.
all was well.
I looked over towards the kids.
what did I see?
if you guessed "snake", you are incorrect!
t'was a mockingbird. asked my son what kind of bird it was. he answered correctly.
however, this bird was acting funny. it was sitting on the fence, and every few moments it would hop down on the ground, spread it's wings like it was trying to fly, then hop back on the fence. did this several times. I thought it was weird. daughter was trying to sneak up on bird. she got really close, about 5-6 feet away. bird was still doing its "flexing" poses.
then daughter screamed.........
"SNAKE!!!!"
I looked over, thinking to myself maybe it's a worm, or small snake...
I looked over, saw what I
hopedwas a large stick....nope
there, where the bird had been "posing" (and by now you realize it was trying to scare the snake away) was a 2.5-3 foot copperhead.
:shocked003
shovel was on the other side of the house, along with my "snake stick" (long oak stick, used for flattening the head of snakes)
I know, the nice CO2 powered pellet pistol I got for just this occasion...grabbed it, YES! already loaded, just according to plan.
wife and kids have their eyes on the snake (from the safety of the bed of my truck)
Ready.....Aim.....FIRE!
*ptoot*
DANGIT!
empty air canister
by time I reloaded, snake was not visible anymore
now, ask me if I'm gonna be able to rest easy until I see it again, with my .410 at my side (loaded, I hope
