Those really look pretty good Charlie. I am not sure I would replate those.

For example below are before and after pictures of my Gem Damaskeene OC. It looked bad and I was afraid the handle would continue to get worse unless I did something.

I don't mess aroundn when it comes to bay rum.

Terry, there's an article about Bay Rum, I forgot where, but it really goes into its popularity. Included is something like "The chicks love it".

 

My MonoBilt was done by Chris in a bright Nickel. Wonderful finish. I haven't had him do a razor in Gold, so I can't comment on that, Charlie.

Thanks Terry. Yes, they're a couple of very nice razors. I'm just in the mood to dress 'em up a little bit. I don't have more razors on the wish list, so I thought I would splurge a little on them.

Prep: Cold water
Blade: Personna
Razor: Schick J1
Brush: Satin Tip 'The Purest' synthetic
Soap: Mitchell's Wool Fat
Post: Witch hazel, Fine American Blend aftershave

Travel shave. The J1 is my dopp kit razor. I have another one that stays on the counter razor rack but this one lives in the dopp. Nice shave all around. Will enjoy some seafood for lunch and drinks and dinner later. Enjoy your day!

Thanks Clint. Your re-plated Gem is a beauty. You're right, mine are in pretty good shape. However, I'd like to have one or two "ooh and aah" razors in the rotation. I'm waiting to hear on the costs for the different finishes. That will help me decide how seriously I want to pursue the idea.

I had a SC re-plated once, but I ended up gifting it to a friend. I thought it turned out really nice.

Does it matter that the handle on the SR is cracked for replating, Charlie?

 

Both razors look to be in decent shape, Charlie. Depending on how shiny you want them, I think they look pretty good as is.
