View attachment 206828 The FAT is defying weight loss by taking on water as I use soap. Loaded heavier today and had plenty of high quality suds for a three pass plus. Fresh Russian Steel in the Italian blade holder. These Fatip are disparaged for quality control and blade alignment issues. While it's plating isn't the best, I've never had problems with off center blades. Nice smooth error free reduction credited three ways; Good lather, Experience with the razor, & Riding the cap. Between Neal @NCoxSTL & Chris @Bama Samurai enabling when I asked, I'm pleased to own a Fatip! After grand daughter Jenisis had chosen the brush, I set her to picking a post shave product. She made a small pile of 4 or 5 in her preliminary sniffing. One of the Chosen was The Veg!. Ultimately she picked the small bottle seen above. It's mostly Everclear 190 proof alcohol, with lime and patchouli essential oils, and shea butter that never would dissolve. Got some on my lip and it does taste alright.

Fat-tober day #2.
I think i will weigh the 'fat at the end of each blade. per-shave soap usage isn't huge so i don't see the point. Talking of blades, this is day #2 on the vintage 7 o'clock. I had my glasses on this morning and was able to see that the blade shows no sign of rust and that it has a date code. I believe that the date codes are the same as Gillette's making this blade 1931 vintage? (!) I am happy to be corrected if this is wrong. The blade and the razor is mild. It bark is very much worse than its bite. It may look like a snarling mutt but in use, it is a gentle puppy In my picture for the day, i thought i would show the razor blade and razor markings instead of the SOTD combo-pics.
I used the Omega today. I don't like this anywhere near as much as the Vulvix. Odd, because the Vulfix knot looks much more shabby in comparison, but the Omega is a stiff knot. Splay is low and backbone is strong. The handle is dreadful. i was looking to see if i could switch it out for my BS brush which suffers the opposite problem (rubbish knot, nice handle) but the knots are not quite the same size. i think this is a brush i need to get some miles on.
Soap again was magnificent. Much lather and joy with minimal effort. A great, thick, slickerty lather. The shave? mild. the blade is a different shave than i am used too. I doesn't feel as intensely sharp like modern blades, nor does it feel blunt. I don't think this is micro corrosion either as the blade was spotless out of the wax wrapper. I remember reading those claims of "400 shaves from a pack of blades" from the earlier razor adverts and perhaps that is possible if you don't mind the not having the laser sharp edges of modern blades. I think these blades are Carbon Steel? If so, perhaps the hand stropping common in the era before coatings was enough to maintain a usable edge? I dunno, bit it is an interesting razor/blade and a nice shave to boot. -DFS today, but very comfortable and no irritation or redness with my sensitive girly skin .
I will go again with the blade tomorrow (i felt no significant change since the 1st shave to be honest) and see if we can get 3 shaves out of it

Razor: gillette aristocrat 1948
Blade: Gillette 7 o'clock sharp edge (19)
Brush: Wilkinson sword classic shave
Soap: reitzer's perfect shave.
Aftershave Balm: prep

Shave 3: First shave of the month with my Gillette super speed flare tip. What a fantastic razor, i have two of them, a made in the UK and made in the USA varient. Slightly milder than the aristocrat and perfect for speed shaves. Shave quality is comparable to an aristocrat but the build quality of the aristocrat absolutely destroys the super speeds. Everything from the plating quality down to the thickness of the metal used is better on the aristocrat, but both razors are great shaver's. Interesting to see that the UK flare tip has a better fit and finish and is slightly more agressive than the US varient.

Not into the Fat yet, got some new bay rum AS (after Shave) and just had to try it out. Found some soap that kinda matched, really don't have anything quite like it, yet. Grabbed an underutilized razor in from the razor stash, Black Ops Grooming. A 3 piece OC (open comb) razor and a feather blade, or two. Don't remember even buying this razor, that's a shame. The shave reminds me of an old Gillette with a heavier handle. Just a wonderful shave, just wonderful. The head shave was just as good. Now the Shaving soap is slick but its lather staying power is somewhat lacking, needs lots of water, that helps.
My new Inexpensive Gable's Bay Rum has plenty of alcohol but not much skin juice for padding. I will wear it alone today to see how it goes, but experience tells me I need some lotion on too.
The fragrance is right, the "splash on" is good, but the all day wear seems forgotten.
All in all a good 2x2 shave with the normal 2 blades.

Thread was busy overnight! Pretty good shave this morning. A couple of red spots along my jaw line. Those will clear up quickly. No issues with lather from The Fat and a nice chilly finish from the RazoRock splash. It's packed with menthol - just the way I prefer.

Based on his recommendation, it is what I'll get if I go for another injector type tool.

i don't haven't any personally but @BBS could help..7oclock blades are still made and sold under the gillette name as you know but i am not sure of the date they started..just like the new sc was the otto roth razor..around 1930? .i would have to research or ask others..

Excellent shave to start the day! Three passes for near BBS. Silent alum.

Terrific lather from the bloomed Fat! Plenty of Premature Latheration. Not a problem, I just load sideways over my bowl and allow the Fatty goodness to drop in.

The TnS Tip Knot is dense with a good amount of backbone and tips that rival my softest synthetics. Truly awesome!
