Don't forget the WD-40. I've run old Fords for decades. Those three tools are used quite often. Having three grandkids under foot / herding cats? Last time I took them out shopping without their mom's help was The Last Time I'm taking all three to the store. I've been discouraged from using bailing wire or duct tape on the kids. It's just not the same world I grew up in.
Got to differentiate tobacco flower from cured tobacco leaf. Tabac is that sweet flower scent. Cavendish is a fermenting process that gives a vanilla like scent along with the unburnt tobacco leaf flavor.

I probably could have worded that better.

The idea is similar to that of the "deserted island' razor. And, simplicity of use.

I agree, they are different scents. Tabac is hard one for me to nail down, as it seems different at times. According to Fragrantica, Tabac actually has a cured tobacco base, but I get floral scent more than cured tobacco. But, after a long dry down, that cured tobacco scent often works it way through.

It’s a decent shaver. Heavy. I’m glad I tried it. I’d love to find an adjustable model to try.

I only recently added Tabac AS to my den. There's a subtle difference between the soap and post shave splash, but I've only used it once. This MWF thing snuck up and grabbed the 30DC collective hive mind. Since Mitchell's has such a light scent, I'll try some Tabac AS again to see if I can find that base note!

I’ve shaved with a Merkur 34c for the past 9 months, and I have it pretty well Dialed. I can use Feather blades no problem, and enjoy sharper blades with it. It doesn’t shave as close as I’d like, but that may just mean I have room for improvement in my technique.

My first shave with the SS (around 9/1) assuming it was a mild razor, was with a feather. I messed up my face pretty good. Blade angle was all wrong. Took the feather out and tried a Big Ben next, concentrating on technique and riding the cap. As I improved I ditched the Big Ben and have been using Persona Blues to decent effect. Shaves are improving steadily, but I may have over compensated recently and be riding the cap too much.

I don’t believe the doors or any other part of the razor is “off” in any way. And my lathering skills are pretty decent. I’ve mostly B&M all month, concentrating on their Reserve line.

Going across or against the grain with the SS results in a lot of tugging. When I do either of these the comfort level of my shave suffers, so I’m strictly going with the grain now, until I feel I have the razor angle perfect. In fact, I may never go against the grain with this razor, as it doesn’t seem to like it.

    Today’s shave:
1954 Superspeed, 3 passes, all WTG and ZERO pressure. Just gliding across the whiskers and reducing.
    Persona Blue 2X
    B&M Terror soap
    Alum, no feedback.
Stirling Glacial Lemon combined with Orange Chill AS

A comfortable and error/blood free shave. Not as close as Id like, but close enough to DFS IMO

Ha, today my friend gave me a bottle of Tabac AS. He didn't like it, but i'm very happy to use it.

The SS are not mild razors at all. A sharp blade in them like a Feather is going to require a much lighter touch than a 34c.

Personna blues are much milder than the feathers and will be more forgiving in the SS.

Perhaps your beard is tough and your skin less so, requiring a sharp blade for the hair but a mild razor for the skin. This may be why your 34c/feather combo works well.

Pre shave technique can really help. An initial wash with hot water can help soften the whiskers. A cold water pre shave splash can help firm up the skin.

B&M is a soap with quite a bit of cushion. Perhaps try something else?

    Imho and ymmv obv.

    Best of luck.

    Razor: Blackland Sabre Gem L1
    Blade: Personna GEM (4)
Brush: El Druida Red Heart Chakte Kok/African Blackwood 2 Band
    Soap: Oleo Pucker
    Cologne: Vicky Tiel Ulysse
Bowl: Symmetrical Pottery Dottie Blue & Lt. Purple Bowl

This is an excellent with a great blade. The ability to be able to have a less aggressive shave by using the L 1 base plate is outstanding. This El Druida brush is in my top five (5), it would be difficult to choose a number one (1). The soap is good with a great lemon smell during the shave very prevalent.
The Vicky Tiel Cologne is strong, not for the shy of heart. Used properly it is a great scent that lasts a long time. It has the same effect as when you walk by someone and there is hint of a great scent in the air. Just a quick spray and our are ready to go.
A two (2) pass BBS for sure today. Made my day.
Ulysse by Vicky Tiel Cologne. Every day is an adventure when you wear the fragrance for men called Ulysse. This bold, masculine scent debuted in 1998, launched by designer Vicky Tiel. You do not have to traverse the globe to enjoy its exotic blend of aromatic essences, which include the citrus zest of neroli, yuzu and mandarin orange plus a refreshing hint of lime. Mignonette lends a rich herbal note for balance.

    Good advice, Jon.

I've heard the term "cushion" used a lot when describing soap attributes but never quite grasped what it means and how it affects the shave. Please explain.
