If the goal is irritation free shaves, accepting less than BBS may be required. Hit those nick free DFS often, then sneak up on the missed spots with little changes in Technique. Take time I guess. I'm still happy with no blood and better than cart shaves. Rarely do I claim or even try for a BBS.
Paul, think hockey puck? Otherwise it's a tub if it's installed in a container. In my mind a "cake" would more describe a bar of soap.

Just for fun did a google image search of soap cake. Quite interesting.. People do apparently make soaps that look like actual cake slices

Thank you Andrew! Thanks for the tip to Connaughts!
Thanks Terry! Vodka is made from potatoes, beer from wheat and hops, wine from grapes, Everclear from corn I think. All sounds like a vegetarian diet to me!

Just reduce, no need to use the razor as a paint scraper to get a so called close shave.
It takes time to get your technique down.
It will happen if you work on comfortable shaving, not close shaving.
The hardest thing I had to learn was to take my time.

After my last pass with edge forward shaving devices and fav soaps, I've noticed that I can splash a little water on and go for a clean up. The blade glides over and scoops up the water similar to what is seen on a hone.

Don't do it 2x. Not enough glide left. Pretty neat to see actually.

My water softener was broken for awhile, and lathering was definitely more difficult (took longer), but I was getting some really slick stuff. B&M and Chiseled Face in particular were slick as snot. After fixing the softener, lathering is much easier, but I’ve found the slickness factor has all but disappeared. It’s weird. And I feel like I use plenty of water.
