Having a little fun today, an edge throwdown between the ‘grand prismatic’ Nakayama and one of the Nakayama koppas that the knife maker Takeda used to sell. Those Takedas were good stones, though some were rough. A Towa was used on the Takeda, and a Hayashi on the other. Soap was MdC fougere lathered with a Rooney 3/2 and a splash of Agua Balsamica finished me up. Shave was excellent, the Takeda I think edged the pretty one by a tiny bit though I could only tell a difference on certain parts of my face ATG. That’s not a lot.

Going Green... C.S. Bresnick “Original SUPREJ” The blued and hammered tang grabbed my attention. Enjoy your shave. Tom
Testing the Nakayama on the left against another Takeda Nakayama pictured in yesterday’s post. The Towa had one shave on it - yesterday’s shave - and the Hayashi fresh off the stone on the left. I finished using heavier slurry because on thin slurry the beefy stone can give a shavette-like edge, very smooth and keen but better respect the edge or it likes to give you a little ‘love nip’. Heavier slurry tames that. Anyway, it was 100% a draw - I couldn’t tell the difference. Cream was Atkinsons for Gentlemen lavender lathered with a big Rooney 1/3 Silvertip that’s just getting broken in, and a splash of Thayers lavender finished up. A splash or two of Agua Lavanda Puig finished up a BDBS shave.

Great shave, from a German blade. I had a buttery smooth, 2 pass shave, that left me BBS. This is one brand that always delivers. Great quality. Razor- H.Boker. Brush- Wilkinson Sword Boar Soap- More For You. Turkey Aftershave- Pinaud Clubman

5/8 Russian Straight made in 1968 Has an excellent shave with this blade. She removed the whiskers effortlessly like a T-34 Tank smashing through a wall. Not sure of the maker.
It is pretty unique and a little quirky to shave with honestly. The blade length is on the short side, couple that with the thumbnotch, and it is a different experience... but I love it.
J.R. Torrey "Our 136", 5/8 Last evening I did 50 laps on the balsa block with 200k diamond paste followed by 25 linen and 50 horse hide. The result made for an easy and efficient edge. Since I am a whole face shaver, sharp is essential.
