Thank you, Joe! They are all so nice I couldn't stop at just one. His next project is going to be a reproduction of the Merit shaving brush. I may just end up with that one as well.
October 3 Gillette NEW SC Voskhod Teflon Coated DE (3) Simpson Chubby 2 Super Truefitt & Hill Sandalwood Alum, Thayers WH, USB, CC Bay Rum & Ermenegildo Zegna Uomo EdT The sultry morning breeze announced the arrival of yet another blistering October day in The Bluegrass. Looking toward the future of a Den without Clubman, I forged ahead, knowing that the NEW Short Comb in my hands would most assuredly deliver a baby smooth shave. Admittedly, I still required positive self-talk to fill the gaping hole in my heart due to the Clubman's abrupt exit. I thought to myself, "It's all a matter of technique, Charlie, and you're a master. Besides, you have scores of classic aftershaves to put the finishing touches on what you know will be a shave aspired to by many but achieved by few." Straightaway, I went to work with the Chubby 2 and the Truefitt & Hill Sandalwood cream to build a deliciously smooth and decidedly slick lather. Precision, calculated swirls of the brush eventually reached a crescendo of violent circular motions. And yet, in flash, the wild brush movement quickly transitioned to gentle painting strokes. It's no accident that Simpson Super Badger brushes and Truefitt & Hill shaving creams are mainstays in The Royal Den where Kings and Princes use nothing less than the very best. As expected, pass one delivered a nearly perfect shave. Dare I say, "Smooth, smooth, smooth!" Could this be the case with only one with-the-grain pass? Yes! I quickly came to my senses. Not being one to rest on my laurels, though, I began the second against-the-grain pass...not that it was needed but merely to help myself relate to the struggle of my fellow shavers who fail to ever obtain shave perfection, much less Shave Nirvana. A sure and swift pass two was executed in short order. Rapid-fire and exacting shaves that would make any newborn jealous were nothing new in this Den, but I congratulated myself nonetheless. "Face facts, Charlie. With the technique like yours combined with world-class tools, shave nirvana was literally as sure as the rising and setting of the sun." A quick rinse, followed by a dash of alum, another quick rinse, a splash of witch hazel, a shea butter massage, and a final slap of bay rum signaled the pinnacle of the morning. I looked ahead, knowing that no challenge would be too great and no experience would be too heady on this day. In other words, it would prove to be a typical day in retirement whereby I'll leverage my talents to benefit not only myself but also countless others. Kentucky translation: It was a dang good two-passer. Hope you fellers are having a great day!
