    Greetings once again shave fans.
    Open Comb OCtober

New Col Conk Bay Rum &
The New Col Conk cereal or soup bowl
    Omega 10098 boar
    Gillette New Short Comb
    Tiger face tonic
    Stirling Dirty South Shavers AS.

Having observed the great debate over soap cakes, tubs & pucks. I became a little confusseled on what my new Col Conk material is.

I had decided that this bowl was too small for my normal helpings of soup or cereal, so I decided to use it to put my new soap in. I hope the good Colonel is not upset with me. Also, not being sure if this needs to be called a puck or a cake, I will use the hybrid term "puke".

Well the Blue Ming took off, grumbling about not wanting to be involved with Col Conk's blooming puke.

I normally am not a Bay Rum fan, but liked the Col Conk Lime soo much, figured I'd give it a try. Not too strong and no over-hang, so it was just right for me.

It didn't take long to get the Col Conk Bay Rum puke to 'spume forth'. I figure we were clicking the rails at spume factor 8 with the suds of the Colonels puke.

If I ever have to 'go economy' with shave soaps it will be Col Conk hands down.

Day 2 on the Feather blade in the New SC. Most of my DE shaves were with a mild tool like EJ DE89 or an adjustable dialed down or wide open. This seems like it somewhere in the middle. I like the blade holding setup, no margin for slop or a misload. I also like the small cap, which with the nice amount of blade feel makes staying "on angle" easier than with a 'milder' piece.

The puke of Col Conk's bay rum, the pig hair brush, the aged razor, and Japan's finest blade all came together for a great shaving experience.

I can't remember who here at TSD recommended Lucky Tiger After Shave & Face Tonic to me, but it should be found in every Shave Den.

Just a 'light coat' of the Dirty South Shavers AS was perfect.

Speaking of aftershaves it has come to my attention that folks in these parts have been found making their own aftershaves with the hi potency Everclear. Caution is to be advised.....

    Thank you Gary!
Thank Clint! It's part letting them feel involved, and part distract them so I can shave in peace.
Thank you Jim! Twin sisters, but not identical. Melody knocks her homework out and moves on to other activities.
Thanks Terry. Won't be long they'll be asking to borrow a razor like their mom.
Thanks Joe! I did run Melody through Macy's at the mall, spritzed her with Chanel No.5 from a tester. Real quick a sales lady showed up and pointed us to something more trendy.
Thanks Andrew! I looked at the puck trying to find a pressed in logo - no such. So If I'm working from the bottom of the puck, it's that part that takes forever to do a donut hole.
Yup Jim, regenerating soap. You heard it here! I think Joe @Trigger is familiar with the Observer Effect? The mere act of looking at something can change the measured result?
Thanks Blair! We are a bunch of The Most Interesting Men In The World.
    But better shaved.

I've heated up a puke of Col Conk's lime. Gently in the microwave to just melting - it conforms to the container. Not something you can do with tallow soaps. They're Grate!

I've maintained my batches to small volumes. Both the successes and failures were minimal. I rarely drink the Everclear because I don't like to puck or cake. Mostly I use it as a solvent with those fuzzy sticks to clean my tobacco pipes. You might lick windows, but not one of these when I'm done.

    Shrek's Own
    Razor: "Foreign" OC
    Blade: Vintage Gillette Super Silver
    Soap: MWF
    Brush: Pashanna 404

Well, today's tale is all about the razor.
I don't know what it is, who made, where it came from or where it is going. I think it is an "old type" Gillette clone. The only marking on it is "Foreign". It looks awful. Ugly even. The plating has been worn through everywhere, the cap screw is loose in the head. I have had to straighten some of the teeth as far as i dare. I have filed off the burrs and sharp edges where possible. If Shrek had a razor, this would be it.
I found it when i first started wet shaving a few years ago, sat on a shelf, all alone, unwanted and abandoned. No small wonder given how it looked lol. But with some gentle care, it actually bolts together fine and it holds a blade straight and true (well, with a nudge or two, blade alignment isn't its strong point). The handle is heavy and solid.
I cleaned it up when i first got it and proceeded to have possibly the worst shave ever. This thing didn't just nibble me, it bit and chomped. As punishment it has sat in my bottom drawer for the last two years.
However, i don't have many OC razors and well, its OC-tober so needs must and two years is long enough to forgive its previous misdemeanours.
So, as promised to @brit , i dug up my stash of vintage Gillette Super Silver blades (W-1976) and dusted off the Shrek and loaded a blade. After some fiddling with alignment i was good to go.
New Blade=New razor and Fat-Tober means weighing the 'Fat every time i change the razor. So after three uses, it is weighing 199g (down from 201g). Perhaps too small a delta to be useful....
The brush is the 404. I have a difficult relationship with this brush but today it performed faultlessly. No hogging of lather and the 'fat performed flawlessly as usual.
The blade is, as i remembered from last time, a mild blade. Apparently they are renowned for long lifespan so i shall see how many shaves i can get out of it, which leads me onto the razor as i don't normally switch out razors until the blade is worn. This means me using the Shrek for a good few shaves!
As it happened, this isn't a bad thing. Two years must have made a difference because i actually enjoyed the shave. The razor has teeth (literally) and is ready to snarl and bite if you let it, but i used a very light touch and paid it much respect and it behaved itself. The handle is really quite nice. I found it had good balance and poise and i had no trouble dancing with it for the shave. This is no RFB OC, but it isn't so bad in all honestly. I quite enjoyed the shave. I really like the feel and balance of the razor and the handle is a joy. Typically Shrek, awful to look at and intimidating to behold but quite the pussycat in real life and a worthy worker.
DFS shave and would have been even better if i had not been so anxious of Shrek biting me :)
Finished with a good splash of Mandarin Kolonya for a great shave
    Happy shaves all.
