Thanks for the shout out, brother! It makes a man thankful to be thought of. We're just in a busy season of life with one kid in college with some medical issues, one in middle school playing travel ball year round, and one in elementary with some special needs. Not to mention the mother-in-law that is quickly descending into a place where she needs us more and more. I got away from buying, and stopped feeling like I had much to offer. And man, this place has grown and faces have changed - I stopped being able to keep up with it all.

But I do still lurk around and check in. I should a little more, if only for the shenanigans. I miss shenanigans.

All that said, I do still shave. I have an actual crap ton of soaps and razors to work through, and I'm slowly making progress.

I've always leaned more vintage with my razors, but lately the two Joris razors are seeing a ton of action, and when I do go vintage it's most often the ol' ball end tech.

I still have only two brushes in rotation: the 30DC Limited Edition and a Maggard Plissoft. They cover all of my needs in spades, and the 30DC brush has the sentimental edge as well.

Soaps? Lots of Tabac and Williams, with the occasional appearance of Stirling favorites.

Blades? I toss them all in an old pipe tobacco humidor, and wherever comes out when I reach in gets used. When I finish up all of the randomness I have accumulated, I'll stock up on Voskhod and Astra SP and be happy with them

These are complicated times. So I've opted to simplify wherever possible.

I'm WAY behind, Charlie. Sum up some of the important things for me so I can put my foot back in the water. And yes, I've washed the foot.

I worked collections and disconnections as a subcontractor for the cable company around Atlanta. Most of my time was spent on the south west side, but only during daylight hours. Clipboard, hard hat, orange vest made me near invisible. No one pays attention to the Cable Guy unless they are waiting for hook up, or late on the bill. Maybe I was oblivious, but for the six or eight months I did that I was in uncomfortable situations for maybe an hour total. Toting a 90 pound 28 foot extension ladder around during the summer did slim me down and tone the upper body. That and a smile & kind word talked me passed many security gates.

    OCtober Fat Friday

    Mitchell's Wool Fat SS
    Vie-Long Cachurro brush
    Suribachi bowl, cool water
    Gillette NEW LC, Bolzano
    Pinaud Clubman AS lotion
    SOTD 10042019 MWF 367g.gif
The MWF is still defying gravity with no decrease of mass. It doesn't load easily with a soft bristled horse hair brush while the puck is sliding around in the dish. Persistence and patience won out, lather happened, and the shave got done. I'm thinking I ought to do the deed and hydrate the puck so it'll swell up, soften, and make it easy to load even with a badger brush. So three passes with more than adequate lather and a very pretty, old 3 piece left me satisfied. The barbershop baby powder scented lotion feels good for hours and no one tell me I can't wear it. Alls right in my world.

    Good Shaves Y'all!

    Great pic, Rick!
I don't have a horsehair brush. I read they are prone to tangling without proper care while lathering. Have you had any issues with that?

    Try this:
Leave the puck post-shave to dry out.
Tomorrow, do ya thang with your brush but give it a good flick out before you use it. Don't be worrying the soap with threats of waterboarding, just go to the puck with your slightly damp brush. Be gentle. Do not mash the brush. Just go round in constant circles on the puck. Occationally, Just dip the tips in water and continue. You are after friction and erosion, not agitation.

If you face lather, you can go to the face with the brush half way through loading. Once finished, lather up as you would normally.

You should have a mad load of lather and a happy puck. The lack of excess water in the bowl will also help keep the puck stuck and still.

    :)
