Stick with those basics until you get through with that whole tub of Proraso. You'll be glad you did.

    OCtober with the FAT

    October 5

Razor - Gillette New LC Delta Echo
    Blade - [IMG] (2)
    Soap - Mitchell's Wool Fat
    Brush - The Canuck
    Post - Alum

Day two with the LC and Sharp Star. Mitchell's still up since I'm trying to determine the soap usage, or lack thereof, since it didn't change weight yesterday. I chose the Canuck brush, which has the SynBad Flattop knot. Really worked up a good load in the brush then went for the face lather as usual. Fantastic lather that really popped and was super slick. One issue with this shave - I was talking to my wife during it and gestured with my right hand while shaving with my left on my neck just under my chin. Guess I lost concentration or proved my stupidity because as I gestured to the right with my right hand my left hand followed along - sliding the blade horizontally across my throat. I felt that one. Fortunately it didn't really bleed much but the alum really lit that one up. A cut about as long as the blade as I moved that thing a lot. Straight sideways. I'm really, really, really, really glad it was the New LC and not something like the 1918, Wunderbar or, dare I mention it, a pain stick.

Anyway, the alum sealed it up easily enough and the burn has subsided. I'll stop trying to talk and shave at the same time. Now for the soap conundrum. Yesterday the puck started at 299 and ended at 299. Figured it picked up a bit of water from the brush. Figured it would start dropping today. Here are the numbers from today.

    Pre-shave - 299 grams
    Post-shave - 299 grams

Yeah, no difference AGAIN. I'm beginning to think there's some wizardry at work here but I'll stick with it. It is possible, I suppose, that I'm simply adding in enough water from the brush to make up for the soap used. At some point, though, it has to stop balancing out. I'll keep after it.

Hope you had a great Saturday! Have an even better Sunday!

I'm not there. Too many years of bad shaves with whatever soap happened to be in the soapdish. I'm still enjoying the hobby aspect and all the excesses that go along with it. I'm not really on the hunt for better as my mindset right now is that the tools I'm using are only as good as my technique. It's still all about the variety.

I have 0 interest in No variance November. I'll be doing Nostalgic November with razors that are at least 40 years old.

I think sharing the exact same shave report on this forum would get a little boring as well.

Thanks Charlie! I found a shop selling the 400 ML bottles of that juice for $15 with free shipping. Mentholated barbershop sounds good. Just might pick one up before my Clubman runs out. ;)
Picked up a bottle weeks ago, but wasn't sure how much to use. I saved your recommended ratio in my text files. Thanks Clint! Also looked up that Four Roses - several shops stock it here. I've enjoyed my share of Evan Williams Black label that has been described as "something that's cheap and doesn't taste bad". Any comparison to Four Roses Yellow label? Winter's Coming so I ought to stock up on antifreeze.

I did rules the first two months here with The Crew. The reports weren't about the gear but about technique, what was working and what wasn't. Sticking with the same gear and the helpful advice I received made a huge difference in the quality of my shaves.

Nostalgic November sounds fun and I'm looking forward to following along.

Wet Shavers should be more restrictive than to be allowing such shave time interferences.
