Long Rifle Soap Co. 1776 shave soap
Long Rifle Soap Co 1776 shave tonic
The soap is very easy to lather and I kept adding water and as usual, I should have stopped 1 shot sooner. It still worked good and made way more lather than I expected. It's easy to clean out the razor and is very slick. The only thing I don't like about it is the smell is too faint. I could barley smell it when I was shaving. I've been using TOBS St. James Collection since the start and I guess it's got me a little spoiled. The shave tonic is some good stuff. It feels very good on my face but again, the scent is pretty weak. Overall, I'd give it a 9 out of 10. Wednesday I'm doing the exact same shave but with Hunting Lodge soap to see if it's a little stronger scent. No tonic to go with it though. IMG_0767.JPG

Monday morning and back to work after a lovely weekend. Reached for the 1956 Gillette Red Tip Super Speed today really just to satisfy my curiosity as to how aggressive this razor was. I have been on a kick of “aggressive” razors including the Blackland Dart, iKon Tech, Timeless Bronze OC .78 all excellent and efficient. I remember being able to feel the Red Tip compared to other Super Speeds In my collection. Well I loaded up with a Bolzano to give it a go.

Tabac was the soap of choice and today was the shave stick. I also have the traditional soap in the ceramic bowl. I love Tabac in all its glory! So easy to get a lather going with this stick especially when you have a wall of Badger like the Chubby 2 working it up! Very slick and smooth!

So with Red Tip in hand I got through a wonderful two pass shave. Smooth, smooth! No where near as aggressive as I remember which I might just attribute to the really efficient ones I have been using of late. Still a wonderful razor the Red Tip Super Speed.

    Rating: 5 / 5

Razor: Gillette Red Tip Super Speed 1956
    Blade: Bolzano Superinox
    Brush: Simpson Chubby 2
    Lather: Tabac Original Shave Stick
    Aftershave: Tabac Original
    Additional Care:
    B.I.G. Co. Alum Block
    Acqua di Parma Colonia Essenza

    Monday OCtober 7

Hitting cleanup, one of the pride of my collection, Gillette British Aristocrat #15.

    Bowl/Scuttle - GP12
    Soap - MWF
    Brush - Rubberset 200-4
Blade - Feather HI SS (6)
    Razor - 1938 Gillette British Aristocrat #15
Post Shave - OSMA Pierre alum, Baum.BE A/S balm

    Shave rating 5 of 5

Had to take a few days off from shaving - surgery on my left hand on Friday and had some pain issues over the weekend so didn't want to risk it. My 4th OCtober shave is with one of my favorite razors period; a 1938 Gillette British Aristocrat #15. The shave was so smooth, the razor feels so solid and has good heft. There was a little bit of blade feel (which I like) but not overly aggressive. My Monday soap was MWF and that is a very good soap - I just wish I had more. The Rubberset 200-4 brush is a little floppy for my taste but still did a good job. Post shave, the alum reported very little - one little weeper - which I think backs up how good the razor and shave were. The shave was BBS on 2 passes with no follow-up needed.

I'm not sure I'll shave Tuesday, may wait an extra day so I can look through my razors to see which one is next AND use MWF again (as if I need an excuse).

Happy OCtober and great shaves everyone.
