Got my morning duties under control and it's only lunch thirty! Feels good to be caught up with Real Time in this thread.

That's the recommended procedure. For hard core types, man up and only use the shavette. Others may want to work their way to a total open blade shave gradually, using a DE to maintain the tricky spots until they develop the grips and angles to successfully use a shavette.
Yup. If being nicked up is acceptable (and you will get nicks, gouges, scrapes, etc if you are like most folks) then pack away the DE gear. No one will think less of you should you choose to start on the cheeks & add areas as your skill improves.
Nothing but shaving. How hard can it be? You've developed the ability to maintain your blade angle. You don't mash a DE against your skin like cart shaving. Using a shavette even takes the same blades in your stash if you choose the right one. And think about how cool you'll look wielding that open blade with no safety bar...
Me, too. If I stick with it. There are some areas like my chin that need retraining if I want to get a decent reduction. Cheeks and neck are easy.
That's the goal - find your level of acceptable reduction without irritation. A shavette can give much the same finish as a straight.
It's just a process, right? Develop the tool handling skills and Bob's your uncle!

I think so and I’m not willing to take the chance. I soak my natural bristle brushes just to be on the safe side. I then shake out the excess water before lathering. YMMV but it works for me.

Nope, I would not. I like straight razors a lot better than the shavettes I've tried and I have spent hundreds of dollars and many hours learning and maintaining my razors. I can also see that a shavette may be a better option for someone who is not willing to invest in a SR.

I also understand the common need to feel that our choices are superior and how someone who chose to accept the short comings of a shavette could harass someone who had made the alternative choice and vice versa. In the end, none of it matters.

On that note, I find the bloom vs no-bloom controversy completely hilarious.
