It is, Joseph. It was my first badger 3 years ago or so. It was set by WD to 10mm in a resin handle. Too floppy. I bashed it out and put it in one of my handles and set to about 16mm. Still soft, but nowhere near as floppy.

Charlie, I know you are here in spirit. I don't have to tell you that your wife is your primary concern. I will continue to pray for you and your wife. Thanks for keeping us informed.

Chris, it's a good thing that you are seeking professional help. I will pray that you will be able to handle the things in your life so much better. You have shared two major stressors in your life and realized that it is more than you can handle. Acknowledging that there is a problem is a good start. Wishing you the best in your path to be healthy. God bless!

    Stirling Mentholated Pre-Shave Soap
    Blackland Brass Blackbird OC
    Gillette Super Thin Blade (4)
    Yaqi Professional (30mm, Cruiser Class)
    Dry Dock lather bowl
    MWF
    RazoRock Blue Barbershop AS

    The saga continues...

I started loading my brush using only the tips. Light pressure swirling, adding a few drops of water on top of the soap when things started getting pasty. Kept at it until I had a the brush almost completely full of thick pasty soap, I generated no proto lather or froth while loading. Started working the Lather in the bowl and a really nice thick lather was forming. Added water a few drops at a time and continued building. By the third addition of water my lather turned into the fluffy airy lather that I was trying to avoid .

Painted it on my face and shaved my first pass. Protection was ok, lather dried out on my face. Wasn't thrilled. By the end of my first pass the remaining lather in my bowl looked like the foam that collects at the bottom of a waterfall. With nothing to lose I decided to try some citric acid water (¼ tsp citric acid to 1 gal water)I had previously mixed up. I poured some of the mixture into a cup and added a few drops of it to my lather bowl and just started gently stirring. I could feel the consistency changing, resistance was building, bubbles were disappearing. The lather changed from a thin froth barely covering the bottom of the bowl to a bowl full of thick and creamy, stable, shiny lather!

I painted it on for the second pass and even had to thin it out with more of the CA water. For the third pass I kept adding more and more of the water and the lather kept taking it on. The lather was super slick, thick, and creamy. If this is the kind of lather the rest of you have been getting with The Fat no wonder you like it so much. This is proof in my mind that The Fat is sensitive to hard water. Next shave u will try lathering using only the CA water and see how I fare. Have a great day my friends!

    Hump day!

Nice shave, pic and commentary, Andrew! When I use the "pasty" method, I just paint the pasty soap on my face and add small increments of water as I am face lathering until I am happy with it. Now, I assume that it would work with the MWF w/o doing a bowl or mug intermediate step.

OK, it's a really good product that I probably damaged in my haste to make it do a trick. It wasn't the tool, it was the operator!

Just want to say I really enjoyed all the pics and posts . Awesome job guys! Thank you to everyone who commented on my shave and pics .
Charlie @wristwatchb , we miss you but understand your wife needs you more . Youre both in my prayers.
Danny @Hembree ...please accept my condolances . My girlfriend just went through this not long ago with the loss of both grandparents in the same month. May God hold your hand and give you strength.
Chris @Bama Samurai ...hang in there Buddy. I went through some really hard dark times more than once and suffered alone in silence . I avoided seeking help for many reasons and battled through it .
I'm proud of you for standing up and seeking help. I didnt have the courage to do so. You did! Please take care of yourself and remember we are always here for you through thick or thin. God Bless.

Thanks Joe! I'm predominately a bowl latherer. I prefer a consistent lather for all of my passes.

I really like the brush. I am not sure I accomplished much with stropping the base plate but it made me feel better. Mark said his Blackbird OC had a sharp feel in the beginning that seemed to get better the more he used the razor. I decided to try and speed up the process.

    Razor: Blackland Bluebird OC
    Blade: Voskhod (1)
Brush: 30 Day Crew w/2 band
    Soap: Oleo Montrose Blue
    Aftershave: Floid Blue
    Bowl: N/A

Great shave with this equipment. The Blackland Bluebird works great and is a little more aggressive with Delta Echo Custom Refinish Blue. 30 Day Crew brush is outstanding. Two passes with a slight touch up for a darn fine shave.

Thanks Jim! Hmm, install a water softener so that I can properly lather the one soap in my den that I have problems with? The bottle of CA I bought will probably last through the life of my tin of MWF, if I decide that it's worth the effort.
