    Wow, Sorry to hear.

Not knowing the specifics, the answer normally would be "too steep of a blade angle" or "too much pressure" or both.

May I suggest dropping in on the 30DC thread.

It is lively, and fast moving at times.

There are plenty of folks available to help you on the journey.

There is a learning curve. Once the technique comes together it is all sunshine and unicorns. The secret now is to learn how to use the tool. Don't jump from blade to blade or change up a lot of stuff. Using the same equipment is important. You might want to look into getting a SE razor (a real razor). They tend to be easier when learning proper angle. Proper angle and pressure are the key.

There you go again with the 'real razor' jazz.

To the original poster @desdichado, all the options are open to you.

One nice thing about injector or GEM type single edge razors is your blade selection is limited.

    Double check your growth pattern.

I originally thought that a north to south stroke was with the grain (WTG). Turns out that for most of my neck it is against the grain (ATG).

Early on, WTG strokes help you acquire the feel of the tool that you are using.

I don't have a Supply. People love them. What plate are you using?

I have an older injector. Great tool.

Awesome. Necks are weird sometimes. The hair can grow crazy. All different directions. You might need to be sure which direction your hair grows. It is possible you trying to shave against the grain. That can cause issues.

Everybody fails the first day, week, month.....

And we all have bad days where our shaves are as bad as our first.

Its the remaining 99.9% of the shaves which are a joy that makes it so worthwhile.

Wet shaving is the direct opposite of cartridge systems in that it takes some effort, discipline and skill (and patience) but rewards you so much when right. To me, that is a very masculine/paternal ethos and is perhaps why wet shaving resonates with some of us so strongly.

In biblical terms, Wet shaving is Abel and cartridge shaving is Cain and the shaving God will judge you!

YouTube is your friend. Go there and pick up some advice. Not all razors are used the same. Below is an original GEM instruction sheet.

For their Micromatic they recommended a different angle.

So many incredible resources on YouTube. Here's a good example:

Watch pressure and angle. Work to reduce stubble instead of removing it.

It's a cliche, but you want to map the grain in detail on your neck. My own is predominantly left to right on my neck, but in detail, it looks like a sattelite picture of the Carribbean during hurricane season. That's the level of information you want to have for your own shave.
