It wouldn't really be a "Gillette" razor. It's a razor made by EJ/AS and licenced by P&G. I imagine KCG would be spinning in his grave at the very idea should it come to pass.
Has that been established? Obviously the head is an EJ type but these are widely manufactured by others. EJ and Muhle have no patent protection, no purely economic reason to source them there. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
EJ are now PG's "trusted partner" This thing is just a flag flying exercise to promote both. It will shave like an EJ and thus be serviceable but it won't have much in the way of heritage to it to my mind.
With the release of the classic stylings of the Retro Thunderbird, Camaro, Challenger, and others, the general public was ecstatic. The hardcore gearheads, not so much. The latter saw errors, shortcuts and other elements that turned them away. Me? I missed my ‘Cuda, and could not wait to climb in a Challenger and drive one. If I still had my ‘Cuda, I doubt I would have been as excited. In the end, I never bought one, and don’t think I ever will because it doesn’t fit my needs or wants. This razor will excite folks, but many of those who have a Nickel Common Bar handle and a vintage Gillette head that they use, or even an EJ head assembly, might smile, but never buy one. In the end, we have the Plymouth Prowler to thank. It was stuck as a concept car for year until it was actually produced. It led to the release of some cool retro vehicles: Beetle Mini PT Cruiser Mustang FJ Let’s see what comes next and say thanks while we watch and wait.
Come on, that's the one you locked in on? Regardless of whether or not we liked it, it was a good seller. The automakers continue to offer retro-styled vehicles. Jeep. Fiat Spider. The Bronco. While I wouldn't buy the Mitsuoka Rock Star, if I was in the market for a Miata, the Rock Star is what I would likely want. It's a nice combination of nostalgia and modern technology, while also serving as an eye-catching ride. On the other hand, if I had a Stingray, I'd likely chuckle.
Yeah now that you mention the stingray I think my next major major purchase will be a 63 split window for my dad.
Look , I'm happy Gillette is issuing a decent quality DE. I'm not happy with the design they chose . They had an awful lot of heritage to choose from and for me they chose poorly. I recognize it wasn't designed for me or my ilk. If I have any. You mentioned the PT Cruiser buddy. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
Gillette is reaching for anything to help the bottom line. Between guys with beards and the competition for the cart market they need a bump.
This was a relatively safe venture. If it meets goals and they can recognize that were only using the lowest common denominator, there might be enough reason to be a bit more creative. I would have expected a Heritage Collection to be a series of razors. Origins 100 Double Ring Old Type Collection 102 Single Ring Pocket Edition Bulldog Big Fellow 102a Thick Cap Single Ring New Improved 106 Bostonian 126 Big Fellow The NEW Gillette NEW DeLuxe Combination Set Short Comb Long Comb Big Boy The Goodwill Collection 160 162 164 Angel TTO Collection Aristocrat modeled after the 1934-36 types Super Speed Aristocrat Diplomat President It's doable, but is there really enough interest?
I am not aware of a zamak or even a chrome razor in Gillette's history. Of course I still ordered one. Maybe my grandkids will have a rare collectable. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
