Evan, that's an excellent shave! The Dovo Special 5/8 rd pt was my very first traditional straight and it really is a great shaver! As far as the neck, it takes practice to get it just right.

@Primotenore, Joseph, Yes, I find that the smaller width blades are easier to strop. I think it is because they are lighter and the shank is usually skinnier which makes flipping the razor less burdensome.

Hi guys! Hope you are having a wonderful Saturday! I decide to try out for the very first time the Fine Italian Citrus soap on a headshave. I used my VDH TTO with a Rockwell blade that already has been used 3 times. I did this because I hardly ever use my VDH for a headshave because it isn't efficient enough for me. Therefore, this would be a real test to determine Fine's performance. My Rocky synthetic whipped up the lather off the puck quite easily and then I applied it on my dome. The soap lathers very well, but the scent was almost non-existent. When I first opned the box, the scent was evident, but I left it out it disappeared. I decided to put in it an old Rockwell tin to try to concentrate the scent. Unfortunately, it didn't come back to life. I could smell some fragrance on the brush, but it was almost imperceptible. Anyway, during my passes, the soap dried up and I had to add more soap and water to my brush to refresh. I had to do this a few times over the course of my 3 passes and touchups. I am going to chalk it up as my inexperience with the soap and really add more water than usual. However, I believe that I am not going to get the same type of cushiony lather like Stirling. The saving grace with this soap was that it was super slick so that my VDH performance bumped up dramatically. I got an awesome BBS shave. I waited to use this soap until Danny came back because he piffed it to me awhile back. Thanks, again, Danny! Presently, I will use this soap for my headshave, it remains to be seen if I am going to straight shave with it. Have a wonderful Saturday, guys!

Good job getting the VDH dialed in and getting a great shave with a less than optimal lather!

Thanks, Jim! Before using straights, I have been using the VDH for some time. I think the ultra slickness of this soap was the determining factor. I have used Stirling to headshave with the VDH and it was a different experience. Maybe my technique improved. I will find out by using Stirling and the VDH for my next headshave to see if it was the slickness or improved technique. I will keep you posted.
