A huge shout out to
@Linuxguile for shipping me his nemesis tub of Mitchell's Wool Fat, and for tossing in a few tucks of blades that I haven't tried before (how did he know)?
I've never tried The Fat before. Often beloved, often maligned - it has been on my list for a while but my no-buy has kept me away...until now.
So I paired up a blade I've never tried before (Shark) with my trusty old 40's Superspeed. I like the Super Speed for testing blades. It's fairly mild and requires a good focus on angle to cut well, but suffers fools gladly and rarely dishes out punishment for mistakes.
I pulled out my (also trusty) 30DC brush (
@jtspartan is the man), briefly considered how I should go about lathering this supposedly fickle beast, and launched myself into a haphazard assault on it. I ran some hot water into the tub while I set up my razor (it ain't blooming if it's less than a minute), wet my bristles liberally, and got to whipping. I added a good bit more water, whipped furiously for 30-45 seconds, and was rewarded with a plethora of thick, goopy lather. I'd heard this was thirsty soap, so I hit it with some more H20 and found the sweet spot.
Best. Shave. Ever. This could honestly be a forever setup for me if I were forced to choose. Finished up with some 4711 and BOOM. My wife has even offered to go out with me again. IN PUBLIC!
Shark blades: where's the best place to get them? I need to buy a plethora.
MWF: I'll not be without it again. My face hasn't been this smooth since 3rd grade.
Honestly, if my den consisted of Tabac, The Fat, Williams and Stirling Iced Pineapple, I could be quite content.
