    Yesterday and Today's shave

    Yesterday
Supply V2 / 2 dot plate, Schick II twin blade, shave 7
    [IMG]

This shave was an unmitigated failure. This razor may work well with a twin blade using a 3 dot plate but it almost doesn't cut hair with the 2 dot plate. Based on this I won't be using the twin blade with the 1 dot blade when I get to it. Today's shave was a baseline to compare the performance against another razor

    Today
Schick Golden Type L8, personna blade, shave 5
    [IMG]

This razor just plain old outperformed the Supply V2 with a 2 dot plate and single edge blade. Smoother and closer. It is also right there with the 3 dot blade and a twin blade. The Supply V2 w/3 dot plate and twin blade has a slight edge in closeness and smoothness but it would be like a photo finish to determine 1st and 2nd place if it was a race for the better of the 2.

With that said I need to get a Type L clone and see how it shaves. If it performs like the older L Types then as good as the Supply V2 shaves with a 3 dot plate the value is just not there price wise when you factor in performance and ergonomics since the Type L and it's modern clone will be much lighter weight wise and easier to work with for more people.

OCtober 21 on a MMMonday and today out of the Gem rack came the legendary Micromatic open comb(MMOC) razor and it gave me a decent shave. Some blade feel for me and for myself that is a instant understanding of its ability to perform in a more aggressive way if I want it at my disposal. I find the MMOC not overly aggressive if used properly for my shave outcomes.

Razor : Micromatic open comb with bumps on base plate variant-MFG 1932-41-Bumpless base plate 1930-32
Blade : Gem Personna SS PTFE (4)
    Soap : Tabac
    Brush : Razorock Noir 400
Preshave: Brush wash face with CeraVe hand bar soap + Dab of clear Aloe Vera gel on beard area
    Post shave: Dickinson's witch hazel
Post shave: Proraso green lotion AS + Nivea balm
Results: CCS,DFS,BBS + aftershave indicated minor irritation +1 weeper= [IMG]

    L`Occitane Cade cream
    TNNSER 3D
    Gem S/S [ 6 ]
    Puig Quorum A/S Lotion

I decided to see how the TNNSER went when using a cream, very easy to rinse when using a soap.I chose the L`Occitane which is one of my favourites. Even though the blade was on its 6th outing, there were no problems getting a good quality Shave, in fact the Razor/Blade combo worked very well with the cream. I had not mentioned before how easy it ease to clear any soap residue from the Razor after a Shave, just run it under the tap and all disappears.

SOTD, I like my Stick Schick L with a Twin II blade and still testing the longevity of the blade. The twin works well for daily shaving but anything past 2 days you are going to feel tugging & plugage IMO but it is a remarkable blade.

Razor:Stick Schick injector L theme series type- MFG 1973
Blade: Schick Twin II (24 uses) Japan made
Brush: Yaki tuxedo knot 24 mm +

Post shave: Alum block + cold water rinse
Post shave: Razorock XXX aftershave with witch hazel + Nivea balm.

My 7th Shave with the TNNSER and the blade is obviously on the wane as it is pulling a bit. I did however get a trouble free Shave with an excellent close finish, it did just take more time than usual. This is proving to be a good Daily Shaver and brings out the best of a Gem Blade, and which IMHO would give
the modern AC/SEs a run for their money in terms of finished Shave quality and consistency.

For those about to dip a toe into SE razors, how do they compare to DE's?

Well the best I can say is that I started about 14 years ago with Straight razors, found a DE and started using it for convenience, ended up transitioning to that one DE for a long time then branched out to several DEs then I found an SE A Micromatic Open Comb to be specific that was the end of last year and I now have a decent collection and very much prefer SE, although I use DE and Straights to ad varietie and fun. I often use 2 razors just to go through my collection more frequently. And have even gotten crazy and used 9 razors in one shave. Not sure if this helps but in my opinion SEs are great shavers. There are guys here that would probably be better at recommending a first SE but I don't think you can go wrong with a TNNSER 3D. Although the Gem Jr. Bar is probably my favorite they are harder to find and much more expensive. The TNNSER 3D is a super close second for favorite for me and very convenient. The Enders Speed is up there in my favorite razors I've owned but it needs an adapter to use a modern blade or the acquisition of New old stock proprietary blades, so I wouldn't recommend that as a first SE.

I can't help commenting on fow much I like that Yellow Enders whenever you post a picture of it. It's such a beautiful razor. I saw a decent picture of one held up to the light so you could see the translucency of the handle.:love029::love029:

Yes, all of these Bakelite (or, I suspect catalin) Speed Shavers have a bit of translucency that accentuates the swirling colors. I'll try to get around to taking a pic.

    Thayers Witch Hazel with Cucumber

I arrived home today to find my TNNSER 3D and Jayaruh Brush. I recently took some time to reacquaint myself with light razors (PAA Bakelite and Souplex Bakelite).
The razor was more efficient than my Sabre L1 with a finish which I normally only expect from my Classic Cobra......completely and utterly 'Face Feeling BBS'. with only a tingle from the Alum Test. Even after only 1 shave I can say....this razor is amazing

After a week with TNNSER 3D I made a return to my Injector rotation. I made a good choice as the N3 is a mild but efficient Razor with a Twin Blade aboard. The Shave was very smooth and comfortable with a Top Notch close all round finish.
