Thanks for your reply-I'll have to re-read that opium part with your understanding of what he was talkinabout. I guess the joke was on him-his "imagination" of the opium scent became overpowered by the actual scents-Gunpowder, Leather, etc....

I have really grown to liking the RR Classic soap for the almond scent and for the nice and easy lather it makes. It provides enough slickness for me to shave. Although, it did thin out on my 1/2 pass and I attribute it to not loading enough soap in the brush. However, it was enough to do the job with touchups. 2.5 passes gave my a nice, comfortable, BBS shave. I didn't get any irritation, but got 2 insignificant weepers that disappeared during subsequent passes without the help of a styptic pen or a splash of witchhazel. Now, for the moment of truth, will I be chosen by the Veg. I applied a liberal amount to my face to make certain of the acceptance or disapproval by the Veg. I have to say that the Veg. accepted me. It gave me a nice feeling and the smell was not overpowering to me. I smelled my hands after applying this aftershave and it was a sweet and mellow scent. However, I don't smell it on my face! Go figure! I have to say that I like the Veg and the Veg likes me. Have a great Saturday, guys! 20191026_081958.jpg 20191026_081958.jpg

Very good shave this morning I got back on track at the neck with the "north-to-south" on each side, then reversed directions over the middle(Adams Apple area). I think it's easier for me to do that routine with soap, than cream/foam. As I've said, I expect to be grandfathering the Jeeves for a real long time. And the Stephan feels real good on my face and neck. I'm sure other Bay Rums have more attractive scents, but there's just something about the Stephan that I really like-it could be how the clove scent is so neatly covered by the others. The Stephan gang is most well known for hair care products(in fact,I have their hhair-styling gel, and have been using it the last few mornings), but I suppose they figured they'd better include some Bay Rum aftershaves, which have been staples in barbershops for generations, and of course barbershops aren't JUST for haircuts. 1897 was its opening year...my paternal grandparents were 2 years old and Grover Cleveland was President.
