Had a 20 mm knot left over that I bought to fix another brush. Another brush that I like the looks of, needs a new doo. I Cut off the old knot, use a sharp knife! I then drilled a hole through the old knot. Then I opened up the hole with a vari-bit. Hey the 2 pieces unscrew, well I'll be. Used rubbing compound to shine up the plastic. Then a dish soap clean and clear water rinse, towel dried. Fit the knot, the old knot hole was smaller than 20 mm knot, used the vari-bit to enlarge it. Looking at the bottom of the knot in the top part of the handle. I put a cardboard ring to keep the epoxy from smearing onto the threads. Using a stick, I smeared the epoxy into the handle, on the bottom of the knot. I also made sure the epoxy was on the sides and pushed into any crevices. This took the longest time, about 10 minutes, had to be careful. Took a few sticks to do the job. Well, looks like its in correctly. Then screw on the bottom. Seems you can unscrew the bottom of this and load it with anything for weight. Neat! tp
Thanks guys! After the first one, it really isn't hard. I got some more knots headed this way. We'll see how it stays together later when the ucky-pucky sets up fully. I got some more brushes that need re-doo-ed. Hair doo-ed that is. tp
Thanks Keith! The sticks are from a dollar store. I got some more knots for some other brushes that need fixed. Thanks for the Maggard synthetic knots. Nice! tp
Go with plaster of Paris if you are a traditional type of fellow...or nickels if you are a neo-traditional type. Lead shot, BB's and pennies are popular alternatives as well.
Thanks I'm not neo anything, nor am I traditional. I just do what works. But those are great ideas. tp
Ive seen this method on rubberset 400 types and i dont see what spreading epoxy on the bottom of the knot plug does? That under part isnt connected to the brush isnt it the gap between on the sides? What am i.missing
The bottom of the knot just got over smear. I used a cardboard cut out to protect the threads that keeps the brush together. I used the stick to get as much epoxy around the sides as possible. I have epoxy on the sides, but I wanted to water seal the knot too by pushing it around the sides. thanks tp
