Part of my plan for No Repeat November was to use a different blade for every shave. I really needed to organize my blades. I picked this container up from Amazon. I think it's going to work out well. I'm not quite finished. I'm pretty sure I have a couple more random tucks somewhere but I'm close.
Thank you, Joseph! I find that Stirling soaps give me the choice to have a sloppy wet or "dry" lather and still get a nice shave. It's very difficult to break this lather with a high water content.
I will pick a big straight with a thumb notch or a smiling razor, the key will be it only has a shave or two on the edge after a refresh. Thank you. Love it when the planets align. I think I will use my Friodur too. A number of years ago I changed my scoring system for golf. After we finished a round a friend asked me my score, I said '6 over'. He said 'that is impossible you shot at least 100!' I said 'no my score is correct. I lost 8 balls but I found 2 so I am 6 over.' Every ball I lose is +1 and every ball I find is -1.
I did not Joseph. After I wet the puck to swell it & leeched some or all of the lanolin out, I've been reluctant to use any more hydration that what's needed to load a brush. On top of that I used a new-to-me badger. My best soap loading happens with either a boar for the stiff bristles, or a synth for the lack of entanglement. So in my haste to try out this short lofted Vulfix I went and tried to load another badger from The Fat. My insanity doing the same thing & expecting different results. Fortunately I have plenty of non-badger brushes to use with MWF, and several new creams for when my Fat Focus ends to keep the horse and badgers in rotation. Yes Sir, Blair! Thanks. Several cool items I'm trying to convince myself to keep. There's one in particular that I'm going to see if I can get the story on. It's a kamisori marked "YASUKI STEEL" & "New AZUMA". With a 45mm long edge and Western grind it's similar to my kami-shavette in size & geometry. Needs a handle wrap, and I have no idea if it's shave ready. I have viewed Glenn's @gssixgun videos on honing kami's, and Adam @Drygulch owns one similar or the same. Not sure if I'm ready to take the leap into starting a rock collection.
I like it, Jim! I have a plastic storage box and a pencil box for my straights. I truly believe it is important to protect and secure our shaving items in a convenient spot.
Nice, Keith! Thank you, Joe! This is going to work out a lot better than my previous organizational system which was no organization at all.
She is a beauty, Keith! I love shaving with mine! Oh, by the way, congrats on passing the SK citizenship test. I am surprised that the SK or US doesn't have a dual citizenship agreement.
Thanks, Clint. The only blade that will be a repeat next month will be a Gem. Two razors that take Gems but only one brand of Gem blades.
My additions (post 123 of the traveling box thread) to the box on this 3rd round are many of the things you used today: Parker Safety Razor, Wholly Kaw Project Leather, badger brush (forgot the brand, it was from the June Father's Day raffle), and the kamisori. The kamisori I did hone, and shaved with it several times, shown in a couple 30DC posts. Not sure how well it survived the 'traveling box' though. I don't remember the exact details, but the Yasuki Steel and New Azuma, while not quite the recognition of Hoshi Tombo or Iwasaki made, it was supposedly some of the artisans that worked for Iwasaki copying the process. At least that's what the internets said.... It is a two steel kamisori, one for just the blade, and then another for the spine and handle. I followed Glen's video and got that kamisori scary sharp. It does have a slight twist in it (look closely, or put it on a hone), it was heavily used (many honings) when I received it, but it still has a lot of life left in it. It was an eBay purchase of a set of 3, each about $22. The description said the set came from a barber.
The home I live in was my father's father's. He was a Rock Hound. In his oil field work he did some world traveling and brought home all kind of odd rocks. In his shop he had a wet saw with a diamond blade, all kinds of equipment for making jewelry, and shelves of rocks. Some time after he passed away one of my aunts inherited all his gear. I've asked her about it, and she denies being in possession. Still here at the house are the outdoor rock gardens - but they are grown over by English ivy and protected from view by prying eyes. I've pulled a couple pieces out when replacing a water line into the house. Got a hunk of blood red flint big as a chicken that might have come from Doggerland. Pops was Welsh. I don't know flint knapping so I've tucked that rock inside as a door stop. There just might be an acceptable stone for making hones, but the saw is M.I.A. Agate, geode, lots of fossils are waiting for my grandchildren to discover.
OCtober with the FAT October 28 Razor -Fatip Piccolo Blade - (2) Soap - Mitchell's Wool Fat Brush -I*V 10 The Moreau Post - Alum Not a bad day in the Lou today. Got everything done I needed to get done and that makes it a pretty good day. Mail showed up and it's apparently time to deal with insurance for next year. Oh well, something to keep me busy in my three minutes of free time each day. Shave time and it's a good one. Staying with the Fatip and Sharp Star. Going to MWF for Monday and using the hybrid boar/badger brush. Talk about a great brush and pairing it with the Fat only makes it that much better. Fantastic lather and three passes brought the baby home and put a smile on my face. Gotta love it when things come together. Three days left in OCtober!! NOVember (No-variation) is almost here. I've lost track a bit toward the end of the month. Do we have a soap nominee? Buehler? Buehler? I'll give more details on the theme as we get there. Have a great Tuesday!
Haven't shaved in probably 3 days now . Cant remember as I was busy as heck. Did a quick 1 passer on head and face and out the door . I'll jump back in here when I get some free time . Take care everyone.
