Howdy doody my peeps. Got a pretty nice 3 day weekend under my belt. Played w/ the baby, hit the gym, took the wifey out for a nice M-Day brunch and generally took 'er easy. It was a good weekend. Capped off w/ a shave using the new Futur I got off the BST. A very hefty device that shaved quite nicely. I've read a few negative reviews about it, but I thought it performed pretty well. It's the best Merkur I've shaved with to date. It needs more testing but preliminary results are good.

So all is well. The only downside is it's hotter than blazes here already, and I ain't ready for that. I should hear any day if my transfer came through so maybe I can miss at least 1/2 this summer in AZ!

 

I've been very happy with my Futur. It's an excellent razor once you find the sweet spot, and it loves Feathers.

who knows why merkur produces such shoddy blades? You'd figure they could at least match Personna's quality, but no...

 

...and we're talking the same company that makes Dovo razors. In the esteemed German blade town of Solingen no less. (My kitchen knives are an excellent set from Wustof in Solingen)

 

It is indeed. It was a $6 ebay score. I plan on stropping and honing the little blade that comes with it to see if I can make it worth using. It'd be a shame otherwise. It cuts a nice, clean, defining line on my goatee. The difference between that and using a regular DE is definitely noticable, but the blades are miserably dull.

 

I've got a set of Wustof knives that are going on 20 years old. They are still razor sharp. I think I could shave with the chef's knife or the paring knife and get a far better shave than a merkur blade could give me.

 

Of course, the Wilkinson Sword factory is there too. If I'm not mistaken, their razors are pretty low down the list as well. Maybe I should stick with blades with tangs when buying Solingen blades.

 

the wilkinson blades are pretty good. Much better than the Merkur, in any case. and hey, the wilkinson sword "sticky" is one of the most sought after TTOs.

sucks so far.

Man, I just can't shake this foul mood.

I did however, enjoy Star Trek immensely. They did a great job making it a movie for everyone, but doing enough fan-service to keep the core fanbase happy.

I did clean up my great-grandfather's straight last night. Gave it a trial run... first pass was pretty good for never having used one before. Second pass, I gave up and swithched to a DE.

I've definitely got to watch some tutes on straight razor shaving.

It goes alright. I'm really tired today for some reason, but otherwise, things are fine. We've been having some nice weather here recently - not too hot, not too cold - so I've been quite happy about that.

Pretty much.

Yeah, it took us 4 solid days of cleaning up afterward, but we're bee-free now.

It's a Vision next to the Merkur Mustache razor. The Vision is just a flat out monster in terms of size, and the mustache razor truly diminutive. I think the pictures kind of lose the size of the razor without any perspective. Just to give you an idea of how massive this thing is, and how tiny the mustache razor is (and to show off my surprisingly larger than expected Merkur collection), here's a size comparison:
