  3. Weds NOvember 6

No Repeat (mostly) NOvember. Up today is a L'Essor hoe/lather catcher with a CV Heljestrand wedge blade I honed myself. Looking forward to this shave.

    Bowl/Scuttle - GP12
    Soap - MWF
    Brush - Rubberset 400-3
Blade - CV Heljestrand wedge (2)
    Razor - L'Essor hoe/LC
Post Shave - OSMA Pierre alum, Clubman A/S

    Shave rating 5 of 5

Last time I shaved with this razor in OCtober, I used a GEM SE blade. Today I used one of the wedge blades I recently honed. The razor and blade provided a very nice, mild shave. I did two passes; first pass WTG was DFS. Second pass XTG and was BBS after second pass. The MWF provided excellent lather as usual. The alum was a little vocal on one side of my neck but that was it. Finished up with the Clubman A/S.

Happy NOvember and great shaves everyone.

I do like the heft and feel of this Razor, but I find it extremely mild. I have to work quite hard to get a really close shave. Probably would suit those with a less dense beard than mine.

Van Der Hagen Luxury Shave Soap
    Jayaruh #292
    C.V. Heljestrand
    CVS CS SE
    CWR
    Granddad's Blend AS

My prep was just a cold water rinse. The Van Der Hagen Luxury Shave Soap face lathered well with the Jayaruh #292 Badger Brush. I did two passes and a cleanup with the C.V. Heljestrand Lather Catcher razor with a CVS CS SE blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Granddad's Blend AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

  16. Supply V2 / 2 dot plate, Schick blade, shave 3
    [IMG]

Last and final comparative razor against the Type L clone. Using a sharper blade in this razor on the 2 dot plate does improve the shave but it doesn't push it over the BBS finish line. End result I don't know if I could recommend either of these razors to a new wet shaver or someone new to single edge blades. The Type L clone spring can be problematic and the Supply V2 handle is just too damn heavy to be usable depending if your hand strength or other factors and it doesn't work well with the moderate or mild 2 and 1 dot plates. With that said both do perform up to par when paired correctly with the right blade and/or plate combo, in the case of the Type L clone either a Schick Proline B-20 better or Chinese Schick best. With the Supply V2 it is the 3 dot plate or nothing. All blades I've tried in the Supply V2 work well with the 3 dot plate with the Schick II twin blade being my favorite with a good balance between smooth and sharp.

If I had to recommend one it is the Type L clone because of price which they can be had as cheap as $15 - $17 with a blade loaded whereas the Supply V2 starts at $79 and you have to buy the 1 and 3 dot plates separately so that pushes the razor over $100 to get a razor that performs up to par. Value $ or functionality wise is just not there with the Supply V2. If they allowed you to choose the plate when you bought the razor I might be more favorable to it. Supply is also raising prices and making changes to the razor which depending how they pan out might make it a less desirable item.

I rarely use creams these days but this came to hand, as my son appears to have used it last night. I think I have been missing something because today it helped me have a super Shave. The rather care worn 1924 fitted with a modern handle really is a delight to use, and the ease and quality and of the finished Shave was no doubt assisted by a great Lather. I reckon todays Shave is up there with the ones that I get with a Streamline , a lot cheaper too.
