Early morning shave, just getting to post. Jason's craftsmanship w/Omega 10098 tranplant....performed nicely. Rewarded with typical Stirling lather, slick and fragrant BoS. 2.5 pass DFS+, no drama, no weepers. Next up was PAA's Mysterium Serum (unscented). I had planned on using the Stirling BoS AS together with the BoS SS, but wifey surprised me last night with the Versace. It's a very nice EdT, however it fades quickly for me....from their website, 'The oriental aromatic scent combines notes of juniper, tarragon, ambered lily, iris and finishes with amber and tobacco flower'.

Testing out some new video and photography equipment.....product catalog/web image style today.

Also a working weekend....I'll be reading along mostly....back Monday.

Wonderful shave this morning. Went with the B&M Eventide soap which is a wonderful Oud forward scent with supporting notes of lime, raspberry, and rose that add a tangy sweet element to it. Lots of soap was picked up by the stiff little boar knot and was transformed into a shiny, gloppy, and creamy lather in the Dry Dock lather bowl. Painted on the lather and OMG what an amazing scent creation. Three passes with the Type F and the baby was in hand. I finished with a very light application (2 drops of AS on wet hands) of PAA Strange Island AS. This is the only woodsy forward AS I have and it is strong! Is kinda had that bay rum antiseptic quality to it but with a strong balsam and cedar presence. I can still smell the AS almost 6 hours later, and I only used two drops of it! Have a great weekend my friends!

Saturday I shaved with a big 7/8 Koraat with a 3/4 grind. I recently honed after a failed honing attempt. Happy to say this time I got it right, smooth and sharp.

33 now. It was supposed to be its last shave but it was working so well today with arko that ill have to use it for a while longer. I tend to only use well used blades with arko because its so incredibly slick.

Good morning to everyone!
A fine morning for bay rum and a different blade. Tried out a Shark blade in the Monobit today. 2 passes on the face with a witch hazel clean up pass. It started out slightly rougher than I like, but by the half way mark in the first pass it tamed down quite a bit. Got the face smooth and clean. Still rougher than a feather but good enough to keep going. The head was not at all easy. Rough, but I plowed through the first pass. The second pass did ok but not like it should be, I like it more on the "sneak by ya" side of things. After the witch hazel clean up, I'm good to go. The Sharks requires 2 new blades for a morning shave job.

Well tomorrow will be a 2 shark day I can see.
Got home last night with just enough time to eat and hit the sack. Today shouldn't be quite that long.

Popped in a fresh blade this morning and could have easily been done in one pass. Because I normally skip the weekend, I did a second pass for a nice shave. This is also the first time in longer than I can remember that I shaved 4 days during the week. Enjoy your day.

Everything just came together this morning. The Fatboy dialed in at nine with an Astra SP brought the baby to Alabama this morning. The Everready C40 that Clint @clint64 restomoded is a great brush with that vintage vibe. A splash of Clubman and I am out the door to work. Y'all have a great day!

Oh yeah, almost forgot....my son and I got the right hand final drive resealed and reassembled on his 1955 Farmall Cub last night.

Happy Friday Everyone. I decided to reward myself with some bay rum this morning. Mike's Bay Rum smells fantastic. I really like that it is just a pure bay rum scent without any apologies. I would also add that Mike's soaps have proven to work great as shave sticks. The lather just explodes as soon as the brush hits the face. Three passes and touch ups along the jaw line and neck caught the baby with easy. A splash of CC Bay Rum aftershave was meant to seal the deal but I reward myself with some Krampert's as well. A triple dose of bay rum left me smelling and feeling great. I hope everyone has a wonderful Friday.

Great shave and without incident.
Eschewed the Thayer's and went directly to the SBST.
Hard to say how many shaves remain, but I will say this:

Well i decided to do a 1,5 pass shave anyways. Tiny nick which was totally my fault, i lost concentration, but it wasn't bad at all. Now i can get through the weekend, get some growth going and mow it down at monday. With the same setup of course.

I wanted to use this soap on a Friday, so I waited a few days to try it out. It is terrific. The performance is as expected, but this scent is just awesome. Off the puck, I got a lot of citrus and spice, but when it lathered it was so much more. Definitely some bitter, spiced citrus on the top. Just lovely. Shortly, though the nutmeg kicks in, and it smells of freshly ground nutmeg. This can often be overpowering, but it was balanced nicely. A few hints of pepper work their way in as well. Then I get this vanilla and honey scent, which is odd as that isn't listed. But, saffron is part of the scent, which can have a sweet, vanilla scent. So, this is ever present. Some nice tobacco fills in the background for well composed scent. Very much fall, just due to the combination of scents used. This is really a terrific scent, immediately jumping up my list of favorites. I hope everyone has a great day!

-My Aftershave this morning was Stoylin's Unscented. I need to find a "permanent home" for this product. I mean-it may be unscented, but it's from Stoylin after all, which makes it good enough. Thus, the "Mad Scientist Of TSD" will be trying to match it up with nice-scented soaps that I have with no matching aftershave to it(them). WSP Mahogany will be the first "guinea pig", as I've been trying to match that soap to a quality A.S. There's always the Burma Shave cakesoap, too. I'll meet you in my "shave lab" .

-I really love those artisan soap companies that include on their site instructions&various commentary on shaving. As for me, I never tire from such commentary. Stoylin, Sire Hare, Wet Shaving Products are just some of these companies. I'm sure there are many more. It's like them telling us "Now that you have our product, here's what you should know".

This is the first vintage DE razor I purchased. It was replated before I got it and they did a good job making it look factory new. I immediately liked it better than all my modern DE razors.

I'm getting a lot better at shaving in general. Going back to my favorites with blades I know is giving me great results. Also enjoying the no repeat. I have to budget my favorites in with those that I don't use often.

Tape vs No Tape
Mostly I hone for others, so they are not my razors, so I don't want to put any spine wear they might not want, as a Honer it makes no difference to me, I will do whatever a person wants and I do have some customers that request No Tape.
My personal razors are pretty much Mint and I see no reason to not use tape, it just makes no difference..

Fact: I have honed / restored getting close to 30,ooo razors, in all that time I have yet to see a SR harmed by using a Nickels worth of tape, I have seen 1000's harmed by bad honing wearing off good steel
My advice is always the same, use tape until you see zero wear on the tape, THEN do whatever floats your boat
You can also use tape to set the bevel then drop the tape and hone the razor in, that avoids the worst of the Spine wear too

Prices I just watched a 8k and 12k used maybe 5 times go for $100 on the SRP Facebook Exchange $89 is the going price online which isn't bad since I bought mine in 2008 ish for $79

Tried a few 'jluc style' closeups. What did I get for my troubles? A cat hair on the splash bottle and stains on the soap tub...epic fail.
A very nice 3 pass shave early this morning. The CF is a super slick cream that I've started loading like a soap, tbh. Everything worked as it should and I left the house before anyone else was up to get to a meeting an hour or so away. Special shout out to the Maol splash. An excellent product.
Back at the office now, hoping for no tire fires before the long weekend.

Well, I made it through the day without dropping anything, or having any other mishaps so I'll go back to using sharp objects. I decided with two days growth to grab the Qshave since it has the biggest baddest gap I know of. Its top setting is "6", so that's where it went with a new Voskhod in to make sure it's a sharp and smooth blade. I picked the JR312 which is a really awesome looking and functioning brush and the El Caballero from Oleo Soapworks. This is their Bay Rum version and it's a very nice scent and lather. I haven't used it in quite awhile and checked the website. Yep, still working and available. As an aside - Jeeves is no longer there. Their website finally expired. For those who haven't heard they are gone and out of business. Have been for some time. Just took time to kill the website. Actually, to just let it die of old age apparently. Again, I digress.

I love the sound of the Qshave as it mows everything down. Two days growth gone in two passes and touchups and everything totally smooth to perfection. No irritation or other issues.

For those who have asked, Chris @Bama Samurai , AKA the Yakuza Boss is alive and well in the great State of Alabama. He is working even more than I am which is scary. He'll be back when things settle down. I messaged Adam @Drygulch and he has been doing the workaholic routine as well. That and the fact his work blocks forums from their computers so he is a bit limited when he's being used like a Russian mule. Both say hello and I'm sure they'll be back and causing trouble in the near future. Some of you new guys may not know either of them. Chris is the founder of this group, Adam is one of the original troublemakers, or O.G. as we like to say.
