Stirling Barbershop is different from all the others. Almost a caramel note to me.

One that was really good was the TSD Barbershop. I really enjoyed that scent. Maggard's London Barbershop is similar to the TSD one.

I'm upset they cranked up the costs of their aftershaves. And I still have his "history" on my mind..... I agree, about the # of honest merchants, and I'm in with some of them. I'll see about this PAA product(it does sound good), but....not sure about a future one.

Thanks, Terry! It is a different way of doing things. I just have to pretend that I am a shaver in the 1940's with one razor and setup. Lol!

I use Clubman A.S. with my Central Texas Soaps' barbershop soap. The soap itself is very nice(IMO), but so far as a barbershop scent, it is a bit off, but Clubman comes to the rescue.

    Thank you Daniel, sincerely appreciated.

:happy097::happy102: Danny....you've upped your own ante. Up til now it's been your jokes that make my current beverage flow unexpectedly out of my nostrils. I'm so glad my water was on the desk when I saw this, no words necessary!

    Very nice Mark!

Great setup Ken. All these Monobilts lately....gorgeous examples!

I agree. I want to think that people can evolve for the better. Retailers should be held to a higher standard in dealing with customers, but there are times they make mistakes. If they correct it, then I do not have a problem. If it is an attitude problem, then I give them one more chance. If the attitude repeats, then I will not patronize the business.

Razor - Gillette New LC Delta Echo Version
    Blade - dorco-st-301.jpg
    Soap - Stirling Port-Au-Prince
    Brush - Stirling Finest Badger
    Post - Alum

So, just in case you hadn't heard, THIS happened last night in the Lou.......

I didn't see it but there are other camera views as well. Nothing like a meteor sailing overhead to remind you that the universe is a big and beautiful place. Of course, it could mean something else. One of the local sports talk guys reminded everyone today that it was 69 F on Sunday, we got over an inch of ice and snow yesterday and the temperature was in the teens today and a meteor flew over us in the middle of it. His question......what's next? One of his partners suggested an earthquake, as we o sit near a major fault line. Other suggestions centered mostly on alien invasions but so far, nothing. All is quiet, dark and calm.

So, with the threat of imminent destruction apparently averted, let's shave. Moving back to a DE tonight with the New LC. I do have two of these and rarely use the gold one. I love this particular razor as it was my first raffle prize win on TSD and it is just totally cool. That and the New razors were one of the best Gillette ever made. Great shaving tools with the Long Comb version being just the right mix of aggressive and mild. I chose the Dorco 301 blade that I found in my stash. I never really liked Dorco blades and not just because they have a dorky sounding name. Or is that dorco-y. Anyway.......Not the sharpest nor smoothest in the collection but you know what? Not all that bad either. The main difference is that with this blade I need 3 passes to reach a nice BBS. And, I need two passes to really achieve a DFS. One pass just isn't enough to call ok. Again, no real problem. Since I used the Stirling badger brush and the mutton tallow Port-Au-Prince, I had no issues doing 3 passes. I would have done more if I had just thought about it, just to keep using that great soap.

Great finish, no blood tonight and it's time to put the guys on the fortress walls to watch for more space rocks! I have Natalia front and center to try and catch one if it comes close enough. Here's hoping!

I have found that many if not most companies involved in the shaving biz are hard to deal with. There are notable exceptions, i.e. Stirling, but I think the competition is so fierce that most companies are quite literally scared to death to give out any info that might fall into "enemy" hands. I've tried multiple times to ask for details about Gillette's Russian manufacturing. The same for Mostochlegmash. Also for Super-Max. I've asked questions about soaps from Mitchell's - as in - "do you use mutton tallow or just add lanolin to beef tallow" and am met with total silence. At lest you got the "try a sample" response.

To me, a company that won't directly answer a question, or at least give you a reason why they really can't say, is a bit like a certain "other shaving forum" where they greet newbie questions with......"we've answered that a thousand times so just search it". Rather rude, annoying, dismissive, and makes me want to find that person and put a flaming bag of you know what on his porch. While I'm sure companies can get buried in questions that may be easily answered with a quick search of their site, dismissing customers or potential customers with "try it yourself" or, "look it up", just doesn't feel like great customer service. Just my two cents worth.

Doesn't Hipster mention "citrus"? Yeah, yeah, I know I can look it up. I just seem to remember that being in there when I looked at it not long ago. If so, that covers grapefruit. I've noticed that many soaps will use "citrus" instead of specifying a fruit. I suppose because a lot of the actual citrus fruits smells are close to each other.
