  6. Looking back it could be as simple as the year JohnieGold estimated he would finish all his soaps and vowed he wouldn't buy more until he had. The thread is named "My Guess... 3017"

In my searches I found something interesting.

TR 3017 is the third age. The year of "The Hunt for the Ring"

  8. November 17

    Gillette Old Type
    Astra SP (1)
Rudy Vey Chubby handle w/Shavemac Two-band knot
    Eufros Tierra Húmeda soap
Alum, Thayers WH, USB, Floid Vigoroso & Ermenegildo Zegna Uomo EdT

I used my Gillette Old Type for the first time today. This 108 year-old razor mowed down two days of growth with ease. With plenty of blade feel (more than my R41), it delivered near-BBS results on 2+ passes. I found it very intuitive and fun to use, with nary of drop of blood spilt. Its simple construction provides for easy cleaning. I'm fairly certain I cleaned gunk out of the barrel that had been there since the Cold War.

For the last couple of weeks, I've been alternating between Eufros Tierra Húmeda and Mike's Natural Soaps Hungarian Lavender. Both are very good soaps, but I favor Mike's by a fair margin. Owing to the tallow base, it provides a slicker and more nourishing lather. (BTW, I couldn't stand not having any shaving cream in the den, so I ordered a tub of TOBS Sandalwood yesterday.)

The knot came loose in my RV brush during final cleanup. Aaaaargh! I'll grab another brush for the week while the knot in this one gets re-set.

Bottom line, this was one of the best shaves in recent memory. Everything just worked well together. I hope you all had a great weekend.

My second shave with this razor was better than the first. It will take me some time to learn the razor. Not as smooth or close as the clogpruf but not a bad shave.
  14. Awesome shave, Charlie!

  20. That brush was made by our very own @jtspartan . It's one of the limited editions for the Meet-Up for the 30 Day Crew last summer. Beautiful Poculi handle with a SynBad knot from AP Shaveco. I actually have one left from the summer - $30. If you are interested just PM me.
