I strop before every shave. I don't need to refresh the razor because in just 2 passes I am getting an IBSS++ which is just short of BBS. The blade is very sharp cutting my whiskers with the buttering toast reverb. I have done 2 things differently that may have allowed me to get a 2 pass BBS- or IBSS++ on my last 2 shaves. First, I usually don't strop on linen, but I did these 2 times. I stropped 30 on linen and did 50 on leather. Second, I changed my going ATG technique. Presently, I go over the curve of my jaw going south to north. I used to do the 1/2 pass with the blade upside down to jawline and stroking from ear to nose. Since I honed this razor, I have 14 shaves on it. 12 shaves completed on my challenge and the 2 shaves prior to it.
Good stuff Clint! Thank you Ken. Very nice Mark! Awesome shave Joe! Great report Charlie!. Sending prayers your way. Great shave Dale! You too Gary. Yes Sir. 11 years here. Some good memories . I'm hoping she makes it through the winter.
It is good to hear you so upbeat, Charlie! I will keep praying for you guys. Watch the ice cream intake! Lol!
Thank you Jim! Thanks Gary! What a weekend it's been. Had issues with the starter on dad's Taurus. Later got the front disc brake job done on another vehicle. Gathered the grand kids up for an early afternoon B-day party, but we didn't stay long. Rode out to the country and picked up dad so we could visit a couple car lots. That ate up Saturday. Today daughter rode Amtrak from Houston coming home from her week long cruise, so we had a time to have the house cleaning done before meeting her at the station. When she got off the train she grabbed her bag, stepped off, the train, and had three kids hugging her. I took her bag and headed to the car. When we got home she unzipped her bag and - Surprize! It wasn't her bag. Very similar black canvas sided wheeled suitcase full of some guys stuff. Sure enough it had a tag attached, and not hers. A phone call was made, and she and the kids jumped back in the car to meet the correct owner an hours ride further down the tracks. Fortunate that he was only going that far. Some where in all that, I got almost 600 posts behind, here. I did get a shave in today.
well ,pics.....glad everyone made it home safe and the family unit is whole..what razor did you use?....
Straight shave #3 on the Wagner . Very good shave for a newbie, even made it around the chin without incident . ( Took the goatee off last week ) For the straight , I make my lather a tad bit thinner to ensure glide . 2 passes with a touch up here and there . Frankensoap JR 241 synthetic Rockwell as balm Wagner straight
November Monobilt Focus! Speick Shave Stick JR#130 synth knot Suribachi, cool water Cooper Monobilt Astra SP blade RazoRock alum Forgotten Brand AS First use of Speick shave stick. It's a weird peach color...and it doesn't smell like anything I can describe. Splashed water on my face and rubbed the stick around on my regular two days of growth. I couldn't see any soap for it's Caucasian skin tone color, but a damp brush started lathering it up real easy. Had too much soap as it turns out because it kept taking water. Scraped the excess into my bowl, and added more water to the brush to get the lather to my liking. I recall reading about the Speick plant extract in this soap. There's an herbal scent that's maybe a little bitter? It's not perfumey like flowers. Not unpleasant. Certainly slick, and easy to lather. The Cooper likes the glide. Three passes with no nicks and my face felt good. I splashed on some Cool Breeze AS, I think. It's fairly strong in menthol, has a minty citrus scent, and might have guavas in there somewhere. An early acquisition that's languished in the back of my cabinet. I figured with an odd scented soap might as well use a weird post shave product. Good Shaves Y'all!
I really think it just goes back to the badger and blade thread started by johniegold. He mentioned he had enough soap to shave until 2017 (7 years at the time) and then upped it to 3017. The thread has almost 22,000 replies over the last 9 years. I liked "3017" as in the year Gollum was released from Mordor and started his "Hunt for the ring". As in, the ring left in the bottom of a jar of soap as you finish it, but I am pretty sure that's a stretch.
